I believe it is a D&D cobra, they make some sort of FF5 hybrid.

Hi Kanuck, the D&D's had a body shape that looked similar to the pre-MK4 FFR's. This body looks quite different - particularly in the area of the -ahem- gluteus maximus. :D

I found this kit on Craiglist in Huntsville, AL

https://huntsville.craigslist.org/cto/6389978151.html

The man is asking 10K but said he'll take 8K.

Someone else here may want it.

When I see something like that I can't help but wonder why they don't triangulate the central tunnel structure properly - they could gain significant torsional rigidity with a very small increase in weight.

studebaker53 12-22-2017 06:05 AM

based on what I see, IMO, not worth more than $3,500 or 4K. Ton of work there left to do. Lots of missing parts.

bobcowan 12-22-2017 08:09 AM

That looks like a Factory Five, Mark-II. Probably about 12-14 years old? But the rear IRS cradle doesn't look right for a FFR.

Not worth $8K, because there are too many missing parts. Especially the missing aluminum panels. You would have to fab all the aluminum panels. And without any patterns, it would be a big PITA. I wouldn't try to build a complete car from this.

The body and frame are worth about $3-4K to someone who has collision damage and wants to repair their current car.

Jim Coleman 12-22-2017 08:58 AM

I was told the rear end is from a Thunderbird.

He's a nice guy -- builds Mustangs and took the kit in on trade on a Mustang Fastback.

I tried to explain to him that the kit wasn't worth anywhere near 8K, and he then asked me what I felt it was worth -- and I said I'd have to think on it.

He hoped he might be able to do a trade on something where he could come out.

bobcowan 12-22-2017 09:13 PM

Well, the spindle/upright is from a thunderbird. Which is what the FFR used back then. But the rear subframe/cage looks very different than an FFR. And the rear trans mount looks different, too.

Yea, I just finished something similar, It took me three years and I made most of the parts myself including painting the car, I was quoted 7k to do that job. To put things in perspective, I purchased my project for 7K (body, frame, motor and 4 boxed of parts) and put another 15k to complete it, bear in mind I made around 60% of the parts from raw materials and had to modify the chassis. That is a major project, could come out real nice if you a ton of time or money.

Buzz 12-23-2017 05:43 AM

That is definitely not a Factory 5 body. Shape along the sides and the entire rear section is completely different. It doesn't look like a Can-Am either (another Canadian replica) but it might be an older Johnex basic kit. The body shape actually looks quite authentic. Would be a big, long, expensive task to complete.

1GR8BOSS 12-23-2017 08:44 AM

Definitely not a John Ex, nor Factory Five.

In some of the other pics not shown on this page, there are many other parts- 8.8 IRS rear differential, axles, rack, and a few other parts. Since the suspension pieces and the main pieces are in place already most of the mechanical parts that come with a "base kit" are in place, however in poor condition. In my opinion, this kit is worth taking on if you like fabricating and projects like I do. The aluminum panels aren't difficult to make if you have a sheet metal brake. Just make up patterns, cut the pieces slightly oversize, bend where necessary, and cut to fit. This was one of the most enjoyable parts of my scratch build and really makes the kit look like a real car once you finish.

Make a low ball offer in the $4K-$5K range and see what he says. For that money you have a good body shape IMO, wheels, lots of mechanical parts you won't have to source, and just a few items to source like the radiator, fuel tank and hangers, fuel lines, brakes, etc..... Get a cheap Harbor Freight bead blaster and clean up the rust on the items that need it and repaint them. I picked up a couple different types of metal brakes to do my aluminum panels and they worked great for my project.

Good luck.

I agree, that could be an awesome car with the right attention, lots of hours but a fabricators dream. It's also really important to set a budget then fit the project into that budget, I really don't believe there is such a thing as low-cost Cobra build. If I picked up the car for 5K, I could see spending another 15k to get it presentable so may be a 25k budget. Very tempting!!

mikeinatlanta 12-24-2017 06:10 AM

Agree it is not FFR, but the frame does have significant similarities to a MKII.

Body not close to FFR. Noticed no door inner liner, frame, or hinges. That would be a significant fabrication job, but doable.

There is a guy that has delivered several kits in Quebec,
he went by Pigeon Performance.

Looks like a lot of work.

Seldom can someone escape the words, "you get what you paid for".

Just my opinion,

I looked at this car before it was traded to the Alabama seller. It is out of Canada. The frame has some decent features, although it is homebuilt. The glass work is amateurish. No manufacturer built this.
