Avon cr6zz tires ?

I was looking for the Avon's that resemble the Good Year Billboards, but in a radial. So I found the CR6ZZ, but I don't see them on Roger Kraus's or other sites I've searched ?

CSX 4133 05-28-2018 04:48 AM

They've done some website changes, but I found the listing for those tires.

It was boogling my worn out brain. :JEKYLHYDE

It may not matter, but the tires shown do not look like what we want-a-be radial Billboards ?
Are the wider tires tread different than those ?

I have a set of Billboard tires I've never mounted. Mainly as I haven't driven my Cobra in 10 years, so I don't know about the age factor. I also would prefer the period Cobra look of the Billboard tread, but having the Avon radial. So, if I buy a Avon set, I want to try the "tire stickers" reading Good Year in the Billboard size letters. The stickers are getting very popular.

Just checked prices, a rear 295/50 is $490 !!!
Guess that plan is over !

If you go to the AVONs you will never run Goodyear Billboards again. They are unbelievable when it comes to tracking, ride and traction. As you know I have run billboards on several of my Cobras and and then had Mickey Thompson Radials on my GT40 but when I switched to the AVONs what a difference it made.

I have only heard positive things about Avons, well except for a couple of people who complained that the tires were so sticky that they threw stones up onto the bodywork of their car. That being said, if you are on a tight budget and do not have a the ability to drop $2000 every few years they are probably not something that you will be able to afford. The best handling tires typically have short life spans.

You cannot compare the Goodyear Billboards to Avon’s. The Avon’s are top quality radial tires made with racing compounds and designed for a period correct look on 1960’s and 70’s vehicles. The billboards look neat but are not nearly as good a tire.

Yes the Avon’s are sticky. Yes they are expensive. But if you want a tire that will provide predictable handling and not break loose at the wrong time it is the right choice.

FUNFER2 05-29-2018 09:54 AM

Other than a pure racing slick (few treaded like F-1)any treaded performance tire should not, cost $500. RIDICULOUS !

Highly bred & specialized tire's such as....

Nascar tire, is $450.
F-1 is $430
Top Fuel dragster tire is $540

I'm not, so please don't you,...going to argue about what tires cost in the world, just stating these tires should NOT cost 500 bucks each !

FUNFER2,
All of those tires you mentioned have a lifespan of ~100 miles, ~70 miles and ~1 mile respectively.
;)

Oh, I guess I shouldn't be *****ing cause you don't Patrick.
How about sending me some of your rich's, so $1,000 for two tires is nothing to complain about. (I don't have cow's, just corn) ;)

There's this concept that economists call the "equilibrium price," which is the market price where the quantity of goods supplied is equal to the quantity of goods demanded. The point where demand and supply curves intersect. There must be just enough demand to satisfy Avon's supply of tires at $2,000/set.

I bought a set of Avons last November and love them.

Well when you're done with them will you please sell them to FUNFER2 at a discount? Thank you.;)

FUNFER2 05-29-2018 12:09 PM

Agreed !

(Like after the first lap around the block) :3DSMILE:

I think the best budget alternate to Avon's is Mickey Thompson. I have a set of SRs on my car and they seem good to me. Of course, I have not yet tried the Avon's.

I'm sure my Avon's will look just like new when they age out in 10 years.

CSX 4133 05-29-2018 12:17 PM

Maybe the radial Mickey Thompson SR's @ $ 240 or the bias ply Sportsman Pro @ $350 is a better option.

FUNFER2 05-29-2018 12:26 PM

Good ideas.

jmimac351 05-29-2018 06:16 PM

Avon tires should cost whatever people are willing to pay - just like wine. I'm glad a niche option like that even exists. I always get a chuckle when I see people share an opinion about price / value for something - usually the perspective has to do with whether they are the Buyer or the Seller.

Don't blame Avon for charging what people are willing to pay. "Blame" the people willing to pay it, I guess. It's comical.

jmimac351 05-29-2018 06:26 PM

As for Billboard tires vs Avons... I've owned a set of cool looking yet squirrely Billboards. I'll be going with a set of Avons next go 'round... There are some things you just have to pay for if you want them. As much as I've tried to prove to myself otherwise, I've learned it's best to just pay the bill the first time rather than try to convince yourself the compromise was a "good deal" that you eventually have to pay to replace with what actually makes you happy.

ive had both avons and mt st's. i prefer mt to the avons. better cold performance, much better wet performance (avons are dangerous in any type of wetness), and equal street performance. avons are better at the track.
