Default BMW Rear

I have a 2004 Backdraft with a BMW independent rear end. Is this a common rear for Backdraft's? Know of any issues with this rear? It has a small seep in one of the axle seals.... Changed the fluid, it had Royal Purple in it so I replaced it with Royal Purple Full Synthetic 75/90. Any info on these rear ends would be appreciated, Thanks, Ron

Changing the diff side seal in the car can be done but mucho easier with the diff removed. I'd make real real sure its the flange seal and not a loose axle (six attaching bolts) allowing CV grease to sling out.
If it the axle they're pretty cheap new thru Rockauto @ $60 per.
Typically the rule of thumb is rag-wrench a seep and fix a leak. Both are subjective though.
Plenty of youtube videos on the subject. Search for E36 differential seals.
ECS tuning and Turnermotorsports sell complete diffs and seal kits.

Search for 1995 325i for parts.

Default Seal leak

Thanks for the info. My thoughts on the seep are like yours ... it'll take a lot more than a drip or two over a couple of weeks to warrant me pulling the differential.

Just an fyi I don't believe the axle replacements from rock auto will fit his 04 . I believe backdraft modifies them.

They did on my 03. I thought they changed rear hubs/brake rotors and axles in the 600+ range in 06. Easy way to tell if there is a nut on the axle hub, you have BMW axles.
