Ford FE remote oil filter question....
On a typical FE Cobra we are all used to seeing the oil filter raised from the bottom of the block and relocated to the front of the motor, high up on a bracket attached to the water pump. The incoming hose from the block runs vertically upwards to the typical oil filter casting unit, then exits downwards through the cooler and finally back to the block.
My question is that when the motor is off, doesn't all the oil drain out of that first filter hose leaving a pipe full of air, that enters the crank bearings on start up instead of pressurised oil?

Typically, there's a check valve to prevent drainback in the filter itself. That's why hooking the remote filter backwards is a very bad mistake, since it prevents all flow.

Sounds like you are discussing a wet sump engine?

Two lines up and back should stay full, except for over long periods of no running.

Anti-drain valve most certainly helps.

But what happens when you change the oil filter?

There is a very good reason why factory oil filters are lower than the oil pump.

My 69 came with the filter a little higher than the oil pump. As for the lines I just use air to push the old oil out when I have the filter off. That gets it out of the oil cooler and both lines and is quick and easy.
