I was taking my nephew"s wife for a little drive in my car. They are visiting from texas and I had just got done replacing My clutch slave cylinder,so I was looking for any reason, to take my car out.She was very excited and thrilled with the idea, of going for a drive in a cobra. While on the drive, I had come to a stop and noticed my car would not down shift. The car was stuck in 5th gear. I rode the clutch and limped home, very disappointed and embarrassed . I quickly removed the tko 600 5 speed and discovered my 5th gear and reverse rail was broken in half. The car only has 4000 miles on it. I do not have a receipt for the trany, should the parts be under warranty and has anyone else had this problem?

Sad to say, with no receipt you're 100% on your own. I, myself have not heard of a failure like that. What tranny is it, T5, 3550, TKO 500 or 600?

Can you post some photos of this failure please?

Can't say I have seen a shift rail break in half before.

I'd talk to the mfgr. Even without a receipt they may work with you at least on the repair. I would not assume anything.

All of our cars, from the crappiest to the finest on the forum, are put together with spit and a prayer. Anything can break at any time.

Hi hauss, , I recently needed a couple things for my 2008 TKO-600. Since Tremec dealers are few & far between, I of course went on line. There I found a Ebay co. called gearstogo Phone# 877 432 7786. I don't care to deal though Ebay, but since there is a phone# I called. The gentleman's name is Brent, a great guy out of Washington St. Knew exactly what I wanted, had parts in stock, sent them right out. He may be able help, at least it's worth a phone call Mention your a member of Club Cobra and my name Tom (Alfa 02) and you will get a discount Cheers Tom.

Thanks Tom. I will probably wind up doing just that. First I am going to give tremec a
chance .I heard they had some issues, with the rails being over hardened . As far as pictures having problems posting give me a email and I will gladly send to whomever may be interested.

I called them and got the nice guy treatment, but no real help (parts]. I did not buy the tremec as I explained to them, the car already came with it. So I can say in my case they did not stand behind their product . Will post pictures soon

Sent pics, broke right at the roll pin and guide pin fit into the rail. I think it was a bad part improper hardening . I could not get through to gearstogo Tom so I used hanlon motorsports and they are shipping me the new parts. They are located in Mich. their # is 610-469-2695 in case anyone is interested .

Good on you hauss, glad things will work out in the end. Any price break for the parts?? I spoke with Brent at Gearstogo, at length about a blurprinted TKO-600, he said next time you have your apart just go with the Carbon Fiber shifting fork's, less money and cures 90% of the TKO-600 shifting issues. may do that at a later date, Cheers Tom.

Hi Hauss,

Glad you're getting this on track. Just wanted to point out that Hanlon Motorsports is in Elverson, Pennsylvania - west of Philly. Bob Hanlon knows his stuff - I'm local and got my TKO600 from him (with carbon fiber blocking rings).

Good luck with this.

Kevin

I'm impressed with the "I quickly removed the tko 600 5 speed". I don't do anything like that quickly.

But good luck getting some satisfaction of the transmission.

It took me longer to get my car up on jack stands, than to remove the trany. Not my first time though. I had to remove it to replace the ring gear, but that was easier because, at that time car was on a lift. I also had help. Most of my experience is working on dirt bikes, my son used to race and I was always working on his bike.Soon when finances permit, I will be adding a lift in my shop.
