Default Black Wheels?

I am considering using Black wheels on my Black CSX car. The quick jacks are black, I will Have black side pipes. I have seen many cars with Black or dark gray wheels. I will have my new set of hallibrand (trigo) wheels powder coated. My question is, is there a period correct color? I have seen some satin dark grey or even flat dark gray. a few satin black? and thoughts of this? The CCX aloy build on this site that KIWI did uses 289 wheels that are what looks to be a dark grey color? KIWI??

Mag wheels oxidize very quickly and turn grey, they keep getting darker until almost black. If you want an original look, I would go shades of dark grey to black with an almost flat sheen.

CCX? I have not built a CCX, the red car with the gray FIA wheels is a Hi-Tech.

P.M. sent.

Default Black Wheels

I am not a fan of black wheels on a Cobra or any car. I don't think they would look good on a CSX. If you are up for the darker color I would go dark grey.

Me neither, but it is the flavor of the year at least.

Me neither, never had black paint or wheels, and probably never will.

If anyone cares for my opinion, gray FIAs on a red 427 are the best.

Seeing you say you're "considering" it at this point and didn't say that your mind is completely made up, why not buy a cheap can of plasti-dip or other spray on rubberized, peel off type product? That way you can try it on for size and see what you like better before going permanent.

I've never personally tried it on wheels but the guys I know who have seemed to like it. I've used it for graphics on paint with track day cars and it's not perfect but it's fun to play with and only about $10.

Thinking about it though, I've never put it on a rough cast aluminum surface, so I'm not positive how it works there.

Anything is better than the original Trigo finish. I painted mine to match my car. Huge difference.

Im going to have 2 sets of wheels, one for the billboards for local drives and show as I am being told the Bill boards dont perform well on the street. and one for driving. I really want to go with 17" wheels but they just dont look right. The Avons dont fill the rear wheel wells like the billboards. :-(
