Rumor that ClubCobra is going bye-bye.
There is a post on another Cobra site about this site. One of the people posting stated he was "notified" that ClubCobra will cease to exist soon. No date or time given.
Again, this is a rumor, but considering all the issues, it may be true. If you have pictures or information you value, you may want to make a copy just in case. I am sure everybody will be given notice, but sometimes things happen faster than you can react.

I don't see anything there that we haven't jabbered about in the various topics here. Just that the site has issues and nothing is being done to address them and everyone wondering about the true interest in keeping it alive. This site is at risk. It's got end-stage kidney disease and is on dialysis. Not quite in a coma but not too far away. One more glitch in the database and it'd be on life support.

The comment from a senior member was he was notified the site will cease to exist. The rest is just the typical complaints, but that post was a bit different.
Needless to say, this site seems to be on auto pilot.

They said the same thing about CHR and ClubChopper roughly 8 years ago, both still around. Traffic down, I suspect both due to a lack of new builds, and a basic lack of interest in hanging out in online forums in general. Quite a few of the hot forums are waning these days.......As always, time will tell.

I spoke with a few club member's here in the PNW, we would be interested in taking this site over if possible. Way too good of a site (Info & Friends) to let it go by the way-side. Anybody else up for keeping this site going? Cheers Tom.

Of course.
There is way too much information on here, and the one of largest forum groups of guys and gals.

I think you'll find that you'll be in over your head fairly quickly. It's not going to make you any money (it will cost you alot) and will take a fair amount of time to put the data base back together. The problems that happen are in all likelihood caused by some corrupted database tables. Unless you're familiar with the organization of the forum database you'll have to hire someone (not cheap). Then add to that this forum software is no longer supported and the new versions that claim to use the same database file are fee based you'll face some expensive startups. Then you will discover that, like me, while this place is interesting and has a wealth of knowledge, it's not worth paying for.

Tom,
See what you can do and let us know. It is worth a try.

The Easiest Way...

Trying to maintain the current structure is pretty much doomed to failure. Instead, the easiest way to preserve the wealth of information is to just use one of the many commercial spider programs to crawl the site and archive it in HTML format. It would be fully searchable, easy to reference, easy to go to individual threads, but you would not be able to, say, resurrect a five year old thread and continue on with a comment in true database format. All the information would still be there though.
Log in credentials could either be migrated from this site to the newest version of the software, which is slightly difficult, or everyone just establishes new logons -- there's not all that many of us left. But all forums would start fresh, but there would still be that one big, read-only, archive of everything that was ever posted on the original Club Cobra.
That's the easiest way to do it because, sooner or later, the pulse is going to stop on this site and there's no one around responding to Code Blue.
That said, if anyone out there is actually a pal of Brent M., it would be nice if he or she just picked up the phone and chatted with him and asked him just what's going on.

Tony made some realistic points.
First, we are talking about someone's passion here, so an important point is to be considerate of Brent Mills interests and desires.
Another possibility would be, if someone who is competent and willing to carry on CC, perhaps the users would crowd fund the start up/buy out, which would be returned if it turned a profit. Realistically, a fee based platform could be necessary for it to work. It is very likely that, the right person is not even a Cobra enthusiast, rather a website/marketing oriented individual. I know it is a great resource and I imagine the users would help to keep it running.

I joined TalkCobra two years ago and, quite frankly, tired of it very quickly. IMO the chatter there was often juvenile and not of the same level of knowledge and assistance I've found on CC. There are times I don't login to TalkCobra for weeks, perhaps months.
Edit: I just logged in to TalkCobra and I note things haven't changed much. The first page of "What's New?" features more threads about other things than threads about Cobras.

I got banned for being too liberal over there. Of course they did not say that, they said people complained about me.
I hope this site can keep going.

Tom I didn't know you got banned. I appreciated your (what I consider) centrist views.
I share the opinion on this site's value for technical information. Hope to figure out a way to keep it alive.
By the way, is it actually a thing to make money on these sites? Kinda figured it was largely run and administered by avid hobbyists, but that could just be my naivete.

Thanks!
I try to be centrist. It is hard these days.
