Default Footrest location

I'm thinking of fitting a (left) footrest for my 'clutch foot' to my car. I'm thinking of something like what I believe ERA have sometimes provided (as an option?).

Can anyone advise as to how far back from the clutch pedal face, towards the driver, should the face of the fottrest be located? I'm thinking that it needs to be far enough back so that my foot won't catch on the rest as it's (my foot) is moving backwards and forwards for clutch operation.

You want it just enough so that when you hang your foot on the dead pedal, if your foot angles over a little to the right, you still don't touch the clutch. An inch or even less will do it, as seen in my pic above.

That looks like a great idea..

On my SPF there is no footrest. I just tuck my foot under the clutch pedal on the highway.

As described above, the footrest should work out well.
My pedals are floor pivot, so can't put my foot underneath. SPF pedals aren't floor pivot?

Mine are standard, at least the clutch and brake side. Pretty sure the throttle pedal is too.

Sounds like SPF Mk3 pedals are 'hung' and their MkII and FIAs are underfloor pivot

This was another design for an add-on footrest that was made for an early SPF chassis.
My SPF has a footrest built in, but its location makes is of no use because it is molded into the fiberglass footbox behind the clutch pedals rest position.
Can someone take a look at their SPF both - pre #700 and post #1040 chassis numbers.

So, Blas, it's actually forward of the pedals?

The early sheetmetal design looks like a little more expensive to make than the ERA design.

Yes my footrest is mounted forward of my clutch pedal, but the rest position of the clutch pedal is a bit arbitrary I would think depending on final clutch adjustment.
I will look closer tomorrow but I could be wrong about it being molded in the fiberglass footwell. It could just be exactly like my part photo but mounted under the carpeting.

Now you got me going thru all my spare stuff in the garage looking for this foot rest part....
Found a BIG Olthoff rear sway bar, and a leather rim steering wheel, a battery cut-off switch, and some really nice Superformance Logo Fender covers.
AGH... And the custom car jack prototype is started 2 years ago..... and the new SS footwell air inlet screens I made to match the oil cooler screen.... thought I lost those.
I got to stop opening boxes.......

Here's the footrest, fitted.
The end result looks OK and impressions are that it will work very well. It's comfortable, and unobtrusive in use.
I lowered it closer to the floor quite considerably from my initial guess.

That looks nice.. I may have to bogart that for the spf, though I think the side wall there maybe fiberglass. Just don't stomp on it ��

Fiberglass won't hold it for long. The ERA cars have a steel tube behind the fiberglass and that's what the two Tek screws go in to.

If "bogart" means copy it, all I did was to scale it from Patrick's setup where he shows the footrest with the tape measure, and also scale it from the printed picture which I found somewhere here on CC.
Alum. sheet is 16g/1.6mm thick.
Screws (4) are M5 button socket head, screwed into tapped holes in the footbox, and Nylocs as well on the engine side.
Patrick's suggestions on "Z" location (ie fore/aft relationship to the clutch pedal) helped shortcut the trial-fit procedure too.
