Purchase the registry. They come up for sale quite often on eBay or you can one new from SAAC.

An excellent resource.

Source it direct from SAAC....

"2008 World Registry - 4th Edition, Vol. 1: Cobras and GT40s
Hardcover, 1618 pages, 2848 b&w photos, color dust jacket."

$99 well spent.

Cheers,
Glen

I guess I’m confused because the Cobra Experience website (CE is the outfit managing the online registry) shows a hard copy of the Registry in the background. That implies, at the least, that their online version is a sanctioned continuation of the print versions. Bill, are you saying that’s not the case?

I’m not trying to stir the pot or call anyone out—I’m genuinely confused here. I’ve met one of the two women involved with the Cobra Experience, and corresponded with the other, and they were extremely competent and knowledgeable about Cobras. As I’ve posted before on this site, the Cobra Experience collection itself is a pretty amazing thing, with several small- and big-block Cobras, a Dragon Snake, a King Cobra, a bunch of Shelbys, a McCluskey Daytona, and an incredible amount of parts and memorabilia. I came away very, very impressed with the whole outfit, so I’m curious to know where they stand vis-a-vis SAAC and the print registry. Given that the last edition was apparently printed in 2008, it would seem that there is probably a whole lot of info about these cars generated in the intervening dozen years that only the online registry could have.

Someone enlighten us, please!

Per a SAAC registrar early this AM, the two are semi intertwined...The back story was that SAAC was not going to offer any further printed versions, and after a hefty sum was spent to create the online version (the entire SAAC database is not currently uploaded there), SAAC and it's registrars decided to create one more printed version. My understanding from Ned (Cobra registrar) is that he is getting the slabside registry ready for print as we speak. Others to follow as time and updates allow. Suffice to say, the SAAC registry has come a long way from the original, 1982, 480 page version........

Hope this is helpful.

Bill,
A new printed Leaf Spring Registry was printed in 2019. It is presently for sale on the SAAC website, for $65 I believe. The Registrar is completing the Coil Spring Registry now to be printed soon. He keeps the online version updated, which contains both leaf spring and coil spring.

BTW, you used 'that' term again ;) They are correctly called street 289's

A quote about the term "slabside" from Dan Case.

"In any case, no matter when the first person coined the term, the term as used seems as inappropriate as calling any car with a fiber and resin composite chassis and or body 'a plastic pig', a car with an aluminum chassis and or body 'a beer can', or any car sold as components or owner fabricated a 'kit car'.

LMH 03-01-2020 08:33 AM

It's not flat, no "Slab", no "slabside"!

Thanks for chasing this info, Bill.

Where would be a good place to look for SCCA 1965 race season photographs?

Alfa02 03-03-2020 01:28 AM

So gentlemen, if I get the "just" of the Slabside name. I should never call my "Pretend, Plastic, A Slabside". Instead I will call it a "Pretend, Plastic Street 289 Cobra" :) I promise to do that if youse guy's just let me stay here, and hang out. :) Cheers TommyRot ;)

Yes, I believe that I paid $65 for my copy of the Leaf Spring Cobra Registry.

Aside from the many Cobra books out there, this would be a place to start: https://www.flickr.com/photos/thehen...7628488413505/

And here: Tam's Old Race Car Site

Yes, for an older guy like me they’re the equivalent of Tictoc or Snapchat—if I start looking at either site I tend to end up wondering where my afternoon went to...

The IMRRC maintains the archives of the SCCA. Link here including some contact info: https://www.racingarchives.org/the-c...rica-archives/

You might also reach out to SAAC.
