That term 'slabside' has always grated a little with me. John Christy referred to Shelby's original car as a 'roadster' in his road test way back in 1962.
I've always thought that 'slabside' was just a colloquial term.

Cheers!

I vote for "Street Roadster" as there is nothing "slabside" about my 289!

xb-60 03-03-2020 05:35 PM

Quite! Why would you call such a great looking car a "slabside"?

"Yair, mate, that's my slabside"

Over here, a "slabbie" is a carton with 24 beer stubbies in it ;)

Cheers :D
Glen

edit: "stubbie" ....a small (375ml/13 fl. oz) long neck bottle of beer :3DSMILE:

Trying to get a bit of history on CSX 2448

LMH 03-10-2020 08:09 AM

This ad has pretty much all of CSX2448's history. Hall Fabrication is a fairly well known Cobra garage, though there s a couple things wrong on its restoration. Pat Colletti is a former owner. I know Pat. Judging by the wording in the ad, I'm guessing it's original engine is gone, replaced with a period five bolt block.

Interesting, what kind of things would be wrong in the restoration?

jmldn 03-10-2020 10:29 AM

Do you have any detail on the restoration errors?

LMH 03-10-2020 10:42 AM

Little things that I see in the photos. Engine cooling fan wasn’t two colors as pictured. (Should be red/orange color) Cockpit mirror isn’t original or in original location. Non-original gauges. From the photos, it looks like the wheels aren’t period Halibrands. And of course, does the block have the vin tag number stamped in it. Can’t tell from the photos but it would something a concours judge would look for. We know the transmission in the car isn’t original. Stuff like that. I tend to look at them how a concours judge would look at it.
When a restorer begins a project, especially on a race car, what point do you restore it too? Original as purchased or a historical point modified along the way.
I understand it was modified in period for competition use by a privateer but it started life as a street car. Pat used to drive it to the grocery store when he owned it!

Would Pat be able to give us any info? Great that you're helping with this..

LMH 03-10-2020 11:48 AM

I haven’t seen him in a few years. He was helping his daughter sell T-shirts at a car show last I saw him. He was an auto broker in Tucson but may have retired. I wouldn’t know how to get a hold of him now though I seem to remember his son was in Facebook. Pat could be too for all I know. You could search around there and see what you come up with. I’m sure he could tell you some stories about it!
He had the car a few years but I think I he owned 4 or 5 Cobras all together. He showed me some photos but I don’t remember specifics now.

Wow. That car was ROUGH before the current resto. Looks like it ran Torq-thrust-style wheels with two-eared knockoffs during its competition days.

LMH 03-10-2020 01:29 PM

One small suggestion I could make now is coat the spare tire well black so it doesn't show as much viewed from behind. It looks unfinished with that showing.
