So Patrick, is that every four years regardless? Regardless of whether it needs it or not?

No, I go by the oil analysis, which I do yearly. If the oil is not acidic, abrasive, or contaminated then there is absolutely, positively no reason to change it. But, if you ask somebody "tell me why you are changing your oil every year," and the reason they give is "because it might have blah, blah, blah in it." If you ask them, "why don't you just test for blah, blah, blah and track it?" They invariably respond with "because it makes me feel better to just blindly change it and not to tax my pea brain with any facts."
EDIT -- Let me add a caveat to that. I do change the oil before the ZDDP could be consumed, having a SFT, because the oil analysis does not tell you whether the ZDDP has been used up, it just tells you the values for zinc and phosphorous, which don't change as the oil ages.

On The Other Hand...
... someone is bound to point out that Patrick spends more not changing his oil than the morons who blindly change it every year.

Which test do you use?

I use Blackstone Labs https://www.blackstone-labs.com/?ses...zim55%29%29%2F and I also have them run a TBN test on my sample each year and I compare that number to the previous tests and the 10.6 value that virgin Brad Penn has. Basically, I look for the presence of wear metals and any presence of antifreeze, water, or fuel. I also confirm the zinc/phos levels.

Thanks for the info. Going to try out the oil analysis kit. Just ordered one.
