Ceramic coating
Hey everyone.
My Backdraft is a 2014 and the paint is in outstanding condition. Today I ceramic coated it. I did the whole recommended prep. Waterless wash, Clay glove, IPA cleaning before applying the coating. It came out outstanding. I didn't think it could look better than before I started but it does. Any questions about doing it, I will be glad to answer.

Unlike waxes and polishes that sit on paint, ceramic coating is a polymer that bonds with the paint at the chemical level. It is very important that any contaminants are removed from the paint before application. Once applied it will last for a years and you wax over it. They repel dirt and water like nothing else, which makes them easier to clean. To have it professionally done starts about $500 dollars. As with everything, the prep is the big deal. Also, ceramic coating is not to be confused with ceramic wax. Here is a pretty good video explaining them and the application process. It's not difficult and because our cars are usually in great shape, the prep is easier.

I had both of my cars did by a pro three years ago as my health prevented me from doing all the cleaning and work required and I think it is well worth the process. Not only do they look better than I thought possible but small gravel doesn't pick the paint so easily and bugs or other road crap just wipes right off. It was a lengthy process as they worked all day on each car but well worth it to me.

One very important thing.
You do not wax over ceramic coating. Doing so defeats the purpose of it. According to the manufacturer. If, down the road, you wanted to freshen it up use something like Mothers CMX Ceramic coating.

What brand coating did you use?
I bought two bottles of AvalonKing to coat my Cobra. I'm waiting on the dealership to open, they are doing the paint correction and coating. I am having a second coating done for added protection and shine. |

Hi.
I used the Avalon King. It took about 3/4 of a bottle for 1 coat. It came out fantastic. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. I was figuring 3/4 bottle. Good to hear of promising results.
There's very little paint correction to do on my car. It's black and does show the fine scratches, so they will need polished out. Otherwise, it's pretty nice. |

Hi Ron:
Nice to see you around the forum, I sincerely hope that you and yours are doing well in the midst of this craziness. We are are well thanks God. Could not help seeing this thread. I just bought a nice 2013 Range Rover Sport with a gorgeous paint condition, nearly flawless. When questioned the dealer if it was ceramic coating he said no it is a RESTORE FX process.
This process reacts with the clear coat and literally makes the swirls and other imperfections to be gone. It runs about $500.00 at specific dealers of this product, but it is great. Here is the link I am hoping to get the Cobra done with it. https://www.restorfx.com/ By the way it is supposed to be permanent and does not wash off.

It is nice to see you posting. I don't get over here a lot any more as for a long time I couldn't get past that You have used your 5 attempts thing. That is a really nice looking car you have there and that finish should be great. There are so many good products any more that just wax has almost become obsolete.

Stay safe and if the weather permits get out and take a drive. Our weather is crappy beyond belief for this time of year and the Coupe is in the shop for a long period so I have to drive the 69 if the weather ever gets nice.

Starting today our weather is supposed to start warming up and be in the mid 90s by next weekend. To bad the Coupe will be gone so long but I can drive the 69 and I have had some people stop by lately to take pictures and talk about it. So at least I have something to do if things get better.
