Default Coating for Side Pipes

Hello All,

My sidepipes need to be redone. Going to change from the Stainless Steel look to the Black Satin look. Other than Jet Hot Coat, any recommendations? Many of the old threads listed companies that are no longer in business.

Thanks,
- Bill -

I had a local powder coating shop redo mine from the stainless to Satin black.
They used Cerakote (Black velvet C7300) which is an air cure.

Any paint shop or you can do the shooting. I chose the powder coater as they had their own bead blasting equipment.

The Cerakote site shows two applicators' in your city but only appear to do weapons. One says he is a master ase mech so maybe he delves into exhaust / pistons etc...

Total cost was $320 for headers and side pipes.

My quote from Jet hot was $1750 and that did not include me crating and paying shipping both ways.

Mine have been powdercoated satin black for years now. They used a high temp powdercoat and it still looks great after 15 years.

Bill,
If you're willing to pay the shipping, I can recommend Performance Coatings in Georgia. They coated the entire exhaust system for my Cheetah in a chrome-look ceramic coating. My system is made of stainless steel so I wanted the coating for heat control rather than appearance. But the finish looks great and has held up during the brief time I've had it in place. .... They also do white and black.

It was just a local powdercoater. They do frames or anything. The high-temp powder is easy to get. They blasted the pipes, powdercoated them, and I threw them on. I think I paid a whopping $75 for them both to be coated? I do not think it would hold up on headers due to the heat, but the high-temp powder is good to 1300 degrees if I recall.

Thanks Guys!

Will check out if I can find a local Powdercoater that does quality work here in Honolulu.

Tommy, your headers came out really nice! Will check out Performance Coatings as well. Love the Cheetah. Had the opportunity to purchase one at a Monterey Auction years back. It was a mess, but should have purchased it anyway. Problem with the Cheetah was that they didn't stamp the frame with any numbers, but it looked original. Should have asked Fred Yeakel for his advise back then. Live & Learn the hard way!

I had my side pipes, headers, and shields coated with Cerakote glacier black. I'm very pleased with the end result. The new ceramic coating does help control the heat better than the previous coating.

are you refering to powder coat or ceramic coat? I did not know there was a high temp powder coat.

I have very good feedback on the Cerakote product. In addition to high-temp exhaust applications, they are very well respected in the firearms industry. LOTS of colors!

They also offer free color samples if interested.
