4 Post lift against the wall

Hello all
I moved a few years back and looking to install my 4post lift. I will have to install my lift with one side of the post against the wall. I was wondering if anyone had to do something similar and wanted to know how it is working out for you and if you regret installing it in this way.

One concern is having to remove tires on this side if there is enough room.

Priobe: If it was for storage it would be ok, but with only one side accessible for working I can think of scenarios that would make it unworkable,
I take it you have a standard size 2 car garage ? They usually have a couple ft extra on each side. I think if you kept it 2' from the wall it would be usable.

I have one abou 1.5 feet from the side wall. As long as you have enough room to get around the outside posts on the wall side without having to walk under or over the lift corner you'll be fine. Mine had to be out due to my controls and tank being on that side. No regrets, best tool in the shop.

Same here. I have to be 20" off the wall, no other choice. I fabbed a somewhat crude bracket that bolts on to the original tank mounts and angles around to the front of the lift post to mount the pump and tank there on the front rather than the side of the post. It works out well.

Put it anywhere you can, as it is the best piece of equipment you can buy. Nice to have enough room to remove the wheels & tires to do brake work and such. Either way, I don't know what I'd do without it.

Yea the issue is when I purchased it I had a large 2 car garage. I had no issues. I then moved and the garage in the new house is a 2 car but is narrower but longer. I can fit the 4 post but it would require me putting the lift post right up against the wall to fit another car in the bay next to it. The motor can be mounted to the front of the post rather than the side, but I think I will loose access to one side.

I guess if it starts to be a pain I will then sell it.

I wouldn't be fitting a 4 post hoist against a wall.

Get a shed, or a larger garage.

A safety issue if you get trapped for room.

Maybe I did not do a good job explaining the situation. The post will be close to the wall. There is still some distance from the wall to the ramps. The controls will be outside from the front not to mention it can be relocated to the rear of the lift. There really is no danger of getting pinned even though I don’t think it’s even possible.

We understand exactly what you mean.

You still need to be able walk around all of the posts.

Mine is placed with the foot of the post directly against the foundation. That leaves the post about 7" from the wall. The rail that the car sits on is 21.5" from the wall.

That's enough room to do anything I want to do with any car that will fit on the lift.

Obviously, the only way to get on that side is with the lift up high, or low enough to step over the rail. A minor annoyance.

For most lifts, the controls and fluid tank are mounted on the outside of one of the posts. And it really doesn't matter which way the lift is set up. You can drive on and off from either end. You can have the controls on either side.

My 2 post 10k is 3' from the wall. I wish it was 5'. You can't have too much room.

Close to a wall at home is up to the owner, but not in a workshop environment.

I use mine for storage also one car on top and one under.
