Default 2022 LeMans Classic (Grid 4)

I found this 9+ min. video. Every childhood dream car from the 60's is here . Even my #1 Alfa SZ-2, car #53 (which I thought was as good looking as a Ferrari 250GTO) Question, to the member's that have been to these (LeMans Classic), what are the rules for bringing your car there, I can't imagine every GT-40, Daytona Coupe, or Roadster's are the "Real Thing"??? Even seeing a Mini- Marcos, car #48 and the Baddest Marcos Mk.2. car #25 Enjoy Gentleman. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_FEinw6tIk

Alfa,

Don't know if they still do that, but here's a set of laps of LeMans from a Scottish Cobra buddy in his replica taken 10 years ago: https://www.youtube.com/user/Cobrascim

He drove the car there from Scotland.

Enjoy,

Tom

PS: I'd love to do that...

I was in Le Mans Classic that year like 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and most of Cobra and GT40 are not "real thing" as you can imagine.
This year there were alos 3 Cobra Daytona....all copies of course.
Next Le Mans Classic will take place in 2023 to comemorate 100 years of this mythic race.
To register for racing you have to go on peterauto.fr web site and complete a registration form which will need to be approved and of course...send many €€€.

Great video, Tom.
Makes me somewhat envious .... I'm unlikely to be able to view the contents of those pit garages in person

Cheers! ....and thanks for posting the link.

In fairness, the first GT40 in the clip is genuine, registered TES1E ((1025) as is the other pale blue GT40 beside it. The Daytonas and most of the Cobras are fake apart from a brief glimpse of the best Cobra there, registered 39PH (CSX2131). As it finished 7th and 1st in class at Le Mans 1963, it has every right to be there! And, yes, it's the real deal, not some clone....

Thank you, Trevor. I expected as much. But even a high dollar Reproduction is a lot of money to risk out there. I spoke with a couple vintage racer (Gil Nickels & Jon Goodman) that went oversea to run their race series, both told me, the European drivers are serious about they're racing. The first race Gil was running his 26R Elan, he and a E-type had side to side contact, he pulled in, but the E-type kept going, Gil said, "Sorry I had contact with that E-type", the official said OK, we'll deal with it after the race, now go out and "Have Fun" He & the E-type driver had a beer and a handshake, both agreed it was a racing incident, and that was that. No harm, No foul. They both (Gil & Jon) had a lot of respect for those drivers, the governing bodies, make sure you have the qualification to be able to handle cars such as (Cobras, GT-40, 917, 935, so on) before they are allowed out there. Us vintage racers (In the states) run (9.2-9.7) where those guys that run @ the pointy end of the field run (9.6 to 9.9) always still with a little safely factor built in. Jon Goodman in 2010 or 2012 ran the LeMans Classic in his "Greenwood Vette" and finished first in class, in his 4-Hour race, driving SOLO!!! Even though I'm retired, I always wanted a season running with European's. Thank you again Trevor for your post. Cheers Tom.

In Europe, it has been a tradition that the cars (and drivers) were made to race - so they do. When some of the newer events arrived, held at Le Mans, Spa and Goodwood etc, things got even more serious as a number of ex-professionals decided to join the fun which was never a great idea as they raced against enthusiastic 'gentleman' drivers who lacked both the skill and ruthless determination of the pro's. Never a good mix. It has been notable over the years that a number of the more 'committed' drivers have disappeared due to not receiving invitations to take part.....they can, and should, be weeded out. Naturally accidents do happen but today they are are fewer and often less violent. A major accident would certainly bring out the fun police who will always try to put a stop to motorsport and people daring to enjoy themselves

I prefer not to get into a discussion regarding 2127. Which is why I ignored it....!

For 2006 (or 2007?) we took a CAV GT40 as the pace car for the historic race.

It was dark red with white stripes. I drove it in Killarney and "later" from Frankfurt airport to the workshop nearby. Then by truck to Le Mans.

according to the registry Caron owns the original, he has a clone which is sometimes used in races, but not in the main events, they can be differentiated easily.
