Went to Unique Homecoming to see my newly born 289 FIA in the neo-natal unit. Maurice and Alan are putting a few miles on it to be sure it’s fully sorted out before I pick it up! I tried not to cry when I saw it…being a tough guy and all.
I had them paint it, and though I had wanted to build my own, a bunch of things came up, and aware of my own mortality, and wanting to drive it, we decided, my time was better spent driving it after he finished it. Good call, as the fit and finish are immaculate. As others have said, you just can’t go wrong with a Unique.
Pics don’t do it Justice! To say I’m thrilled is an understatement.
Equally impressive as the car, was the welcome I got from the Unique family of enthusiasts….Even with the poor forecast weather (it ended up being glorious), still about 30 cars attended. I made a number of friends. I even got to spend time with PDub and his delightful sons, and got to tell Zach in person that I had been using photos of his silver street FIA (copied from here) as car porn during the wait. The Weavers officially put a branch for us on their family tree and treated us like long lost members of the tribe.
A thread here was the reason I was able to find the forward shift kit for the TKX, so it’s in the “close to correct position” for the 289 body.
Lots of people have reasons for buying the car they choose, but Paul gave me the best advise ever when he first told me to take the short drive to Gadsden from Memphis. Thank you! And a big Thank You to the Weavers at Unique, and Susan Parham and Lyle from Southern Automotive!
I will pick it up in two weeks and I can hardly wait!
Oh, and within five minutes of being in the car, this chick wanted a ride!
