I don't see poaching members as a thing. Anyone who joins another site is still free to participate here so their activity likely won't change. Personally, I like having another site to participate in so I can get my "cobra fix" when this site is down.

I have not read this thread...I'm sure it's full of support.
I am willing to work with someone who has the time, passion, and skills to move the site and group forward and take on an ownership role (I'm not looking to make money). Send me a mail at cobradude28@yahoo.com if you are interested. |

I am happy to hear this as we need this site too stay working. There is just to much information and good things here to lose it.
Maybe going through the member list and deleting all of those who have passed on or haven't been active for a year or so would help. My vet was amazed when he called me and asked it I would come look at his system and see why it was getting so slow. He had hundreds of old clients in there who had lost their pets or had moved away and once they deleted them his system was back to normal speed.

Bill S. | Great, thanks for that Bill. This is super news. First of all, a huge thanks to Brent for starting this site, and for realizing that it's time to hand over the keys to someone else. We all go through life changes and changes in interest, and Brent clearly has. Acknowledging that and giving others the chance to bring this invaluable site back to life is huge, and Brent should be applauded for that. Thank you, Brent.

I have confidence that this site can be returned to the functionality and relevance that it once enjoyed. Yes, I am very much aware of all the naysayers out there, and they make valid points. Times have changed, Cobras are not as popular as they once were, Facebook and other social media sewers are more popular than forums, forums are dying in general, etc, etc, etc. I hear that and I get that.

I'd like to counter that with the fact there there are at this very moment automotive forums that are not only surviving but in fact flourishing. Here is one example:
https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/
This forum that I linked to is jumping. It's super busy and very relevant. It deals mainly with traditional hot rods. Now by anyone's measuring stick, if Cobras are dying, hot rods are dying even worse and have been for a longer time. And yet this place flourishes. Why? Innovative and dedicated ownership that keeps the site fresh, is heavily invested in promoting and growing the site, and ownership that expands the reach of the site through cross promotion and innovative cross ties.

I would strongly suggest, if I may, that whoever may take this site over schedule a phone or in person meeting with Ryan Cochran, the owner and operator of that site, and get some ideas on how to resurrect Club Cobra and restore it to beyond what it once was. If forums in general and car genre forums in particular are dying, Ryan clearly hasn't gotten that memo. Last edited by 767Jockey; 10-16-2024 at 07:54 AM..

I'm here boys, just spoke with Bill S. I will also contact Brent (EM-0785) he's in Portland on business this week, but at least get a head start.
Brent (Mills) I will contact you in the next couple days (I have a line on an ERA 289FIA for sale, so busy with that ) I don't text. Phone calls are best for me.
Joining Talk Cobra was a hard choice, and have felt like a Trailor, this has been my home since the first Cobra.
Found out Kevin2 and I have talked (Phone & Emails) before, about the Gumball Rally pieces, I like many others are Cobra people though & though, I believe if we get our site fixed (Up & running) we can still have 2- clubs, that will work well together. Kevin2 let stay in contact.
My heart will always be with Club Cobra Let's see if we can work it out.
Fingers crossed, Cheers Tom. |

Thanks Tom, good luck with the ERA. I don't see the two sites as competitive and I bounce back and forth to enjoy both. It would be awesome to have this site returned to reliability and to know the extensive info in the database is intact and safe. When I built my ERA 11 years ago, it would have been much harder without this site as I had lots of questions and got lots of help from members here. Keep us posted on progress.
 Kevin

I guess you haven't read why the cost of fixing this is a worse money pit than a cigarette boat and closer to a Lear jet.
Let the current czar keep it like it is and migrate to the other place. It has some interesting side topics. I haven't signed up yet because I don't have another hour a day to keep up. It took me 4 hours just to ho through my unread topic list on the SAAC forum.

 | Thanks for the compliment about the other site but this site has 25 years more information than ours and some of it would be very hard to duplicate. I would like to see this site back in good working order and then both sites can work together as each will have some information and members that the other may not have. When I got my first Cobra I was on here daily looking for information on how others had did something. |

If you blocked one end users posts, and what used to be his Florida subforum, you could have cut that down by 3 hours

It's loss would be a huge loss not only for cobra stuff but about the engines too. Also tidbits of Carroll history that I'd never heard

Ok, Brent & I have made initial contact, he (Mills) is dealing with some issues right now, I'm waiting for future contact.
We are all in an agreement, the site & history must be saved, between the 3-of us Brent (Mills) Brent (EM-0785) and myself we will do our damnest to just do that
As long as the site can stay afloat (Breakeven) Brent (EM-0785) & I am not doing this to MAKE money, but not to lose money either.
Tony, we're not trying to save a Cigarette offshore boat, or a Lear jet (Money Pits, yes i agree), we're trying save a site that means something to a lot of, how about some ideas to help, not hinder, you're great at telling us what won't work.
We're doing our best, cheers Tom. |
