Just like Frankenstein...
I think ole CS must have received a damaged body part from one of his organ transplants. It probably was from an evil person
and hence has made the man real NASTY!

Each make our own choice
Carrolls words and actions speak for them selves.
"I just want to make sure that anyone buying one of these knock-off kits knows that they are not buying a Shelby Cobra, or anything close to a legitimate replica of what we built in the 1960s," says Shelby.
Legitimate: being exactly as purposed : neither spurious nor false
Replica: a copy exact in all details
"Like many of these kit car builders, Factory Five takes a bunch of used or recycled parts and surrounds it with a Cobra body. It's a classic example of the old expression 'You can't tell a book by its cover.' I'm doing everything I can to make sure that no one buying one of these kits thinks they are getting anything close to the quality, safety, and protection my team worked so hard to perfect when we raced the Cobras to the World Championship, and built a small number for use on public streets."
Recycled: to make ready for reuse
As Shelby told Kirkham, "Nobody is as good at making the cars as you are, but nobody is as good at selling them as Carroll Shelby."
Which is it Carroll? Can nobody get close to the ‘quality, safety, and protection’ or not?
"You can't steal from me and I want to protect the public from thinking that I'm associated with any of these counterfeit kits on the market," he says. "And this isn't the end. I'm going to keep going until my second heart gives out, but I want to warn everyone - my heart is only 45 years old."
Counterfeit: made in imitation of something else with intent to deceive
From Shelby official web sight:
“…..decided that this would be a good time for him to clone his own Cobra”.
Clone: one that appears to be a copy of an original form
SAAC regognizes Shelbys ‘clones’ as genuine (built from pieces largely from the ‘illegitimate replica’ makers) Shelby Cobras. But NOT originals.
Here is a funny one:
Finally, Ford's counterfeit claims are difficult to justify in light of its continuing endorsement of SPF's rolling chassis. Even after filing a complaint against SPF, a 2002 Ford racing parts catalog features the "Superformance Cobra Kit Car," complete with Ford engine. The caption reads "PUT A FORD IN YOUR FORD."
Carroll on the ‘rights’ of others! Lets not forget this one:
“Ford obtained the trademark from legendary automotive icon Carroll Shelby as part of a sponsorship agreement in 1965, when he raced in the World Manufacturers Series.”
“Mr. Shelby restarted manufacturing the cars in the 1990s after a long litigation with Ford. Among his claims was that Ford abandoned the rights to the name and, to lesser extent, the design.”
Pot calling the kettle black………….
Having your cake and eating it to:
“Late last August, U.S. District Court Judge Rya Zobel in Boston dismissed Shelby's suit, saying he had failed to "present any evidence that consumers associate the Cobra design with Shelby, and Shelby alone." The dismissal apparently has no effect on agreements Shelby has negotiated with other Cobra kit-car-makers.”
The information out there like this goes on and on. I met a person that claims to be a life long friend of Carroll Shelby who stays in contact to this day. I asked him what he thought was behind all of these suits. He said, and I quote “It is all about money, nothing else”. So defend him, bash him, make your own choice. If I had stock in him I would have dumped it like one who would seem to be his protégé, Martha Stewart.

and another thing
I keep seeing these quotes from CS bad mouthing the companies that made our cars, but I have yet to read one hateful statement from any of the "replica" manufacturers directed at CS.
Correct me if you can.
If it were not for the money, I too wonder if CS would fight so hard. And for what? If all the other kit and roller companies stopped making rollers and kits tomorrow, how much "more" business would SAI see from it? You think a guy buying a FFR or Classic Cobra will fly out to Vegas and plunk down the money on a CS car?
It is just bad for the sport and hobby we all love.
Great Asp
by the way, great posts above me on the subject!

to this I add: from "THE SHELBY AMERICAN ORIGINAL ARCHIVES 1962-1965 by David Friedman
Forward by Carroll Shelby
The 427 Cobra ready for delivery to a customer. EVERYONE at Shelby American used to make bets on how long it would be until the car was returned to the shop with a blown engine or in a box due to a crash. Most employees considered these cars LETHAL and the 427's never enjoyed the popularity with the employees that the 289 did...

Oh yeh!
I had forgotten about that from the book. I have the same book and have read,....... no studied cover to cover. But of course by posting that we run the risk of turning this into a SB vs BB thread
Shelby is repsonsible or had a big part in three of my top ten cars. Cobras, GT40 and Slhelby Mustangs(particuarly the GT350R). Amongst the coupes, pantera's, etc. Some of the crap that Chrysler tried doesn't even come close! I do like the Viper but it does not hit my top ten.
Most of this whole topic is emotional. Many of us grew us putting the man on a pedistal and deeply admiring his product. So will all his actions and words, we find them demeaning and hurtful. Like a father telling his son that he is worthless. I don't think he understands our deep affection for his creations and how it hurts us. I think he is only looking out for himself and damn the rest of us. The very same ones who help keep his legend alive.
OH. Carroll saying his heart was only 45. He had a heart valve leakage at seven that kept him mostly in bed until 14. But of course he got a new one in 90 from a 38 year old gambler.

Hmmm. Ok. Keep bashing away. It won't change a thing. It only makes you and this forum look bad and reflects poorly on the hobby.
BTW everything you guys keep pointing too is old stuff. What has he said lately that has brought on this new feeding frenzy.
Have fun

Sure about that Evan?
"Hmmm. Ok. Keep bashing away. It won't change a thing. It only makes you and this forum look bad and reflects poorly on the hobby."
Didn't you just describe what Carroll is doing?
Lets try this as well, but this time about Carroll:
"Hmmm. Ok. Keep bashing away. It won't change a thing. It only makes you and your legacy look bad and reflects poorly on the hobby."
Thanks! I am having fun! Still love the guys products and his charity work. But that is where it stops for me. That I am entitled to, just as you are your feelings and opinions.

Evan-Federal court decision(Hi-Jeff)says Shelby DOES NOT own the shape of the Cobra(came down earlier this year). There is a box on the shelf in Kay-Bee toys with a Series 1 in it stating on the side that Shelby owns the shape of the Cobra. That is today Dec.20th 2002.Is that late enough for you?
Shining the light of day on deception & lies can NEVER reflect badly on one.

Wadesdad,
You own a Cobra and you talk about high maintenance?
Hey, I was out at BJ's in Avon and found a Die Cast model of a 1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe. Actually, I found two..
1:18 scale- Interested in one?
