Ginger, Maryann or....
I heard that Turk kinda liked the "professor"
Guess he figured the professor could build a Cobra out of a coconut and some bamboo! Rick:3DSMILE: |
You leave Turk out of this thread....
Turk can create enough trouble by himself as it is... It is sad, that the man most of us have admired at one time or another is again in the center of much controversy. I can't say he did not bring it on himself. Some of it can very well be age related, and emotional rather than rational. I personally believe he would sell more cars if there are others building Cobras, replicas or whatever you want to call them. If there was only one manufacturer, the exposure to our beloved cars would be so minimal, there wouldn't be as many Cobras observed at the track or the shows or the roads. No one would know what they are or care. They are not building replicas of Bricklins, are they? There is enough blame to go around, but what I feel bad about ,are the people building these cars. True... they may be employed by SAI but they have about as much say so, as you and I when it comes to what Carroll says or does. Like I said some of it is age related, and all I can hope for is that I age more gracefully than he is. Can you imagine me and my posts while I am in my 80's. there wouldn't be anyone left here in Club Cobra. Wouldn't it be nice if we all sent a Christmas card to Carroll for what he had done in the past not what he is doing today? TURK |
Turk,
You look absolutely marvelous for your age.:D "Like I said some of it is age related, and all I can hope for is that I age more gracefully than he is." Now there's an oxymoron, as ornery as you are at your current age, do you REALly expect to age gracefully in a 'couple' more years? You lace your coffee with geritol in the morning, stewed prunes at lunch and the magical "little blue pill" at night to keep you from rolling out of bed and you think that you're as graceful as Dorothy Hamil now? You're already "forgetting" that most of us know you very well. ;) The next thing we'll be reading is that you'll have George installing an automatic in your CSX. Merry Christmas Buddy!:) |
The reason people are pissed at Shelby...
People are mad because he has taken away a hero from us all;
That hero is Mr. Shelby himself. Shelby is the man that facilitated the building of one off the coolest cars to ever see asphalt. His cars are revered all over the world. Thousands of replicas have been built because of them. This website is in exsistance because of them. In recent years things have come to light that has shattered the "hero status" of ole CS, and all the damage came from CS himself. People want heros. Fangio, Hill, Miles, Donahue, etc. Remember what is was like when you found out Santa Claus didn't really land his sleigh on the roof and shimmy down your fireplace, the tooth fairy was actually your parents, or the day you found out that your dad didn't know everything and that he could make a mistake. You were mad. Pissed off. Disillusioned. It doesn't matter how old you are, you're still mad. The saddest thing about the CS situation is that it didn't have to happen. Oh well, maybe I'll go sit on my roof Tuesday night and see if I can catch a glimpse of the man in the red suit. Happy Holidays, Mike |
You mean Santa isn't coming!!!!!!!!!! Darn it man. Did you have to?
Would you really want a replica of a Brickin:LOL: By the way, I'll go with Mary Ann. Like that girl next door thing! |
Ron: I have not seen his recent remarks in Fast Fords. I reserve until I do.
Thanks Evan (aka REAL 1) |
Evan:
You said the same bull$hit when everybody told you about the completion series article in Autoweek (the one that discovered the left over, I mean brand new frame scam). I know, you probably still don't believe it. I guess everybody that has read the Fast Ford article is lying. Even after you read it, you will come up with some other excuse. Why do you continue to defend a person that is giving our hobby, himself, and especially yourself such bad name? I truly think you must be related or have some sort of deal with him. As usual, you are right and everybody else is wrong. Wake up and smell the coffee. |
Soooo, this is what Club Cobra Replica is all about!! [Kidding]
If you come to my garage, you will see I hold Ol' Carroll in high regard and I think he created some of the best automotive wonders ever, especially for their day (so simple and pure). The present day Carroll is unfortunately spending too much time with the lawyers/barristers (barristers--that's for you Wilf) and being taken to the cleaners by them. I'd prefer he perfect his Chili recipe personally--it'd be something he could achieve a higher success rate at. To build on what Turk says, just imagine how rare a Cobra sighting would be if only the 60s era originals were around? How many thousands (I thought through that number BTW) make money and their livelihood off the "continuation" market? Come on Shell, you were the one who gave Enzo fits--that would put a smile on my face permanently. And what I love most is how you will sign your autograph on just about any glove box door whether it is off a real Shelby or not. What's your price? Or do we have Shelby signature replicas as well?????? You were the MAN. |
I been on vacation the last few days, haven't logged in. WOW, this thread is still alive and kicking? Not much to add except.....
Ginger! Ernie |
That's funny Ernie.. On vacation in Hawaii when you live there.. :3DSMILE:
Welll, it did strike me funny !:3DSMILE: Can you really take a vacation in paradise when you live there??? Hersh:) |
BT Snake,,,,,,,,I'm vacationing in Ohio! Hey, where else you going to go when you live in Hawaii? Ha ha. The high point will be a visit to DV Land.
Rumor has it he put some kind of big modor in a Cobra,,,,,,,,, Ernie |
Can't find the Fast Fords issue in question. Can someone post the text?
Jeff: I'm not defending him. I just refuse to join the crazed lynch mob. And yes, maybe you will hear the same "bull****" from me depending on what it is that he said. At least I wait for the facts before I start shoveling bull****. Merry Xmas. |
Evan,
I appluad you for your continued unwavering support of all things Shelby!!!! BUT.....I do have to say that many do not agree with what he has done over the past few years. I suspect that he has lost the admiration and respect of many of the gents that put him on the map in the first place for no reason at all??? So before calling folks a lynch mob, maybe the facts have been offered already, you just refuse to believe them as you sometimes read through those roase colored glasses. Happy Holidays! |

PSB:
Evan thanks we are all full of $hit and lie. Even after he reads it for himself actually out of the magazine, he will say CS was misquoted. He does keep my post count up though. |
To Evan & Real 1;
The article is there and I have read it. I have been getting Fast Fords and at least three other Ford and Kit Car mags for years and everytime he gives an interview it is the same old crap that comes from his mouth..... The magazine is on any stand and can be found at most grocery stores if you do not believe what the others have posted.... I did not jump in on the band wagon this time because it is the same thing rehashed everytime,but if it were not for other articles I was interested in,I would have thrown my copy in the garbage as soon as I rear CS's BS......... David |
John: Well let me just say that its not that I really support him or think he was right in all regards. I don't. I didn't like the litigation and felt it was ill advised and its goal was wrong and an attempt to close the barn door after the horse was long gone as to trade dress/body shape and the right to replicate the shape.
I do believe that he believes what he says and can somewhat understand how he feels about others copying the car he put on the map and that was his "baby". His bitterness while factually justified by virtue of the fact that others clearly did copy his creation and profited from it ,however, it is at the same time unfair and somewhat misplaced by virtue of the fact that if he wanted to protect the shape/trade dress he should have moved sooner and aggressively. He didn't. He should have just competed in the market place and distinguished himself and SAI as the only company manufacturing REAL Cobras. Its sad he took the wrong road at the outset. A public relations debacle. There was apparently alot of hard feelings between him and various manufacturers. Some say it has to do with the claim that they (replica companys) were originally asked to contribute to his heart fund in exchange for his licensing or "blessing" and he was told to @!#$ off. There are two sides to every storey. He obviously still believes what he believes. Can't change that. It would be great to have him embrace the replica community and industry. I think it would go a long way to keeping the enthuiasm for the car going strong and bringing in more enthusiasts. I don't support everything he has said or done. I do try to be fair. There has been so much bad said (some libelous in my opinion) about him by the replica community and so many have said that even if he changed his postion they would still not like him I wonder if he sees the door closed as far as mending the fence or whether based on what has been said if he even would want too. Its just ironic how a club and group of individuals so enthusiastic about a car and its history can be so insulting towards the man that made it all possible. :( |
Ok. Just saw some of the text from page 2 of this thread. Just like someone said its the same old stuff. As I noted he is obviously bitter and felt that the replica companies snubbed him. If you accomplished what he accomplished, created what he created and devoted the energy, time, blood, sweat and tears in accomplishing what he did with the Cobra and felt that the replica industry told you to @#$% off you might be alittle bitter too.
However, now that he lost the trade dress issue he should just let it go. We as a hobby community should just recognize it for it is. Nothing more than hard feelings. Insulting him (as some do) way beyond issue is wrong and counter productive. |
Real 1;
The way I see it is that the things he has tried to do to the replica industry (shut it down completely) is what is making everybody mad at him and turning on him. It is about greed on CS's part. He originally asked the replica industry for $1,000.00 per car sold.......That may not sound like a lot for a high end car,but for a $12,000.00 FFR kit,that's a lot......... His suit against FFR asked for 10 million in damages and all their tooling and molds to be destroyed!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sounds like a lot to me............. There is numerous documentation of CS actually embracing the replica industry years ago and he actually was in adds for certain companys or gave his blessing for their cars,now all of a sudden he does an about-face and changes his stance and wants them ALL out of business....That's what has everyone so worked up and against him..... Did you know FFR has spent over 1 million dollars with his suit???????? Who knows how much Superformance has and will spend on theirs....That alone is enough to put the majority of the smaller manufacteres out of business........ It is not that we do not like CS, I have nothing but high regards for what he has accomplished in his racing and car building career,just that now he is single handely trying to shut down the entire Cobra replica industry and deprive hundreds if not thousands of people from owning one............... David |
Yes. He did seemingly did embrace replicas years ago. Thats why his suit was ill advised and wrong IMHO. However, if he was told to @#$% off by various companies as to the requested $1000 licensing fee then I understand why he is/was angry. After all it was his creation that allowed the replica companies to rake in the profits.
Sorry, I don't think an added $1000 for a FFR would have made the slightest difference in sales and with the Shelby blessing they may have even sold more. Your talking less than 10% of the total sale price with a part of the money going to help a heart fund. Ok. FFR and SPF spent over a $1 million dollars on the law suit. Sounds like their doing pretty good to be able to spend that much on legal fees. Sounds like they are making pretty good money to justify such an expenditure. I don't think anyone will be taking up a collection for FFR or SPF anytime soon. Maybe they should have agreed to donate the $1000.00 to the heart fund with each car. Maybe that would have been the right thing to do. Maybe their decision not to donate the money in exchange for a licensing right was based on greed. Sounds like they could have saved alot of money and contributed to a good cause. Their decision to tell ol' CS to !@#$ off was somewhat ill advised also. The replica industry is not lilly white either. They could have recognized they took his car and made millions on it and agreed to a licensing fee. Why didn't they? Greed? Hmmm The main part of the litigation is over. Thats good. The replica companies can still make replicas. Thats good. Shelby is the only one who makes and can legally market REAL Cobras. Thats good. Everyone should be happy. Lets move on. Evan. |
