turkey pan

I have noticed in some pictures that turkey pans are installed.Some on 427, 460, sb etc...Besides looking more auth. is there any real need for this(cruising around town , weekend drives)Does it also make it harder to work on carb?Looks good but is it needed?

I have one on my 5.0 and it does make the carb run much cooler to the touch. IMHO it also helps direct cool air from the hood scoop to the carb. It does make it much harder to adjust the carb but you can drill a few holes in it to allow you to adjust the idle circuts.
