Default Aluminum Head Light Covers

I plan on doing some auto-x with my Cobra this year and I am concerned about busting a head light with a cone ( I hit a lot of cones).

I was playing with my English wheel and I think I have the beginings of a solution.
The picture shows an aluminum head light cover. It is oversized because I plan on lining it with some type of foam to help absorb the impact. Right now I don't know how I am going to attach the covers or what type of foam to use. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Roger:

Does it hurt when you get your finger pinched in the wheel? Just curious.

Roger,

I've mangled a low-mounted fog light and completely removed a backup light with the cones, but have never managed to touch a headlight, yet. The ones we use just aren't that tall.

Double-sided foam tape, available in a variety of widths and thicknesses. Check McMaster carr. I love those people! Edley

I did something similar when I was roadracing Mini's years ago. I cut a round disc and fit it inside the headlight rim minus the 7" sealed beam. Ran a bead of silicone around the outer edge of the disc on the backside of the headlight rim. Easy removal if need to convert back to lights. Could also do this on an English wheel and leave a small flat flange.
Just another spin on the same idea

Rick
