Roll Call: Concourse Weekend / Monterey Historics 2003?
1 Attachment(s)
Roll Call to all ClubCobra members:
Who from ClubCobra is planning on going to Concourse Weekend / Monterey Historics 2003 ? Request: If you are planning on going this year, please reply to this thread with a (yes/maybe) and indicate what events you might be attending. A few of us are wondering who might be going this year from ClubCobra? “Its 100 years for Ford, and 40 years for Shelby this year" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A few of us in NorCal Cobras on ClubCobra thought it would be interesting to see who is going, and to provide some additional links for others who might be interested. FYI: If you are interested in attending this year, lodging is very tight. If you call in for lodging plans before the end of January, or contact the Monterey Chamber of Commerce soon, they can “sometimes” help you to find available rooms or get you on to various waiting lists for lodging as a central contact point. This saves on the long distance phone calls to each of the sold out hotels! Good Luck and maybe we’ll see some of you there this year. Duane/decooney on Club Cobra.com Various events going on over the weekend: o Monterey Historics / Laguna Seca (track/events) o Concourse Italiano (Italian car show on a golf course) o DoubleTree / Historic Car Auctions (live – day/night) o Concourse D’Elegance (fancy - Pebble Beach) o Group dinners out: Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Details/Links: August 15-17 MARQUE ANNOUNCED FOR 2003 MONTEREY HISTORIC RACES Laguna Seca Raceway A century of Ford racing heritage will be showcased at the 30th annual Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races, August 15 - 17, 2003, at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Monterrey
I believe the plan is for a Gasholes Corral, it just hasn't been released to the media yet.
:3DSMILE: I plan on being there ...with a rental car. Duane, thanks for posting the reference links. |
Re:
Hi Ron,
FYI: there is a group of us (10-12) of us that go down every year from Sacramento/Folsom. We stay all four nights. A few others from an Austrailia/Motorcar magazine attend with us too. Usually about 8-Cobras, 4-Shelby's go and drive down together... One of the guys in our group pits at Laguna for Gordon G who owns a CSX 289 Cobra, the Dan Gurney Ford PaceSetter, and a Shelby Mustang... we all meet up for dinners, auctions, etc.. at the end of each day. We usually drive down on Thursday in a pack and drive home on Monday. It makes for a non-rush weekend, and it allows everyone to attend the various events. Some of the wives go out and do their thing too - i.e. shopping in Carmel while the guys are at the track! Fun for all. A few of us will be entering the Concourse Italiano side-show event on Friday morning to to hook up and start the weekend. We try to do a late Sunday evening drive on Highway 1 with the Cobras out for dinner to Rocky Point. Maybe we can get a coral area going on Saturday at Laguna for any ClubCobra members... I have not heard of anyone setting anything up yet for that or other club coral parking yet... Thanks. |
I PLAN ON ATTENDING AND TO BRING MY GT350. PITTING WITH RICH MASON...CSX2196 (FLIP TOP), CSX2427, CSX3304, AND SR2 CORVETTE. HE COULD HAVE A BUSY WEEKEND DRIVING! MOST LIKELY THERE WILL BE AN ALL FORD PARADE LAP ON SAT/SUN AS THERE WAS LAST YEAR FOR CORVETTES.
|
Last two years I went on my bike. Made parking and getting around easier, but this year I will drive my car down for 2 or three days, if I can find a parking space that is not in the dirt..
TURK |
Got it on the calendar--will be taking the car--installing Rancho Suspension lift and Buckshot Mudders to park on dirt...
We need a CC coral!!!!!!!!! Or, is Norcal gonna have one? |
I'll be there......
To put then icing on Ford's 100th Anniversary celebration in Dearborn (in June), I'm planniing to hit Monterey this year.
I usually (when I come out for the Monterey Historics) go to the Concours Italiano on Friday, Laguna Seca on Saturday, and Pebble Beach Concours on Sunday. Makes a very busy, but fabulous week-end. The parking lot at Laguna Seca on race week-end is like one of the best car shows around. You wouldn't believe the number of exotic cars that come out for this event, they are parked all over the hillsides at Laguna. Will try to catch up with some of you guys if you post some times or meeting places. regards, Jeff |
Terry:
I talked to Rich yesterday and he is looking for drivers. I put myself at the head of the group with Snakeeyes running second. Rich said you could be our gofer for food and drinks, though. |
I'll be there without car, can't seem to warm up to the idea of trailering 3000 miles.
Ron, what hotel you staying at? Maybe we can get a Long Island group together, I'll ask at Snakepit if anyone else is planning to go. |
I will definitely be there with #96. I have volunteered at the Concourse Italiano the last couple of years. The local school district receives approximately 35K to provide volunteers. They have moved the Concourse to Seaside this year so I don't know if they will use the same volunteers.
It is a great weekend to drive a cobra around town. The whole weekend is a car show with spectacular cars everywhere. There are a lot of events in addition to the ones listed above. It would be fun to have a club cobra dinner one night. Is there any interest in a group dinner? If there is interest I can look into a location. Dave V |
I'll be there. Friday- Concorso Italiano. Sat- Laguna Seca. Sun- Pebble Beach Concour and /or head home.

Re: various considerations...
Hey -
Hi Jamo, yea, so far I've heard of nothing specific about setting up a coral yet. The NorCal Shelby Club might be doing something. We need to check and see, and the CC members could just fit right in there. It would be cool to have a small window sticker for ClubCobra.com members or something so we could pick out each others cars. Maybe Brent has someting already? Hi Dave, Steve, all: we usually do the same type of schedule... I might skip DeElegance this year on Sunday and do two days of Laguna instead. Here is our usual for the group I hang with: Friday-Italiano, Saturday-Laguna Seca, Sunday-Concourse De'Elegance (some do) or Sunday/Laguna agin, and spend Friday/Saturday evenings hanging around the DoubleTree Auctions in Monterey to see some nice original sports cars go up for big $$$. We are going to try and do the Sunday evening highway 1 drive thing to Rocky Point restaurant after a few of the guys help finish loading up a few race cars at Laguna. Hi Turk: I'm pretty sure we'll be in the dirt parking lot for any group club/parking. If we get ahold of the right people, we might be able to reserve the blacktop parking area "just in front" of dirt/fenced area. We need to see what the NorCal Shelby Club is doing. They may have it locked in this year. Last year the Corvette Club got the blacktop area next to the dirt. Dinner Out ???: if we end up doing a group dinner out for Club Cobra guys, we'll need to find a restaurant sort of outside of the area to fit a larger group. Its packed everywhere on Friday/Saturday night in Monterey, and large tables are hard to get. i.e. maybe we can do Pacific Grove... Tarpies is a mad house too. If you guys want, I have some inlaws in Pebble/Pacific Grove area, and we might be able to find something that would accommodate a large group - if you guys want me or someone to look into it. We usually do a large group dinner out on Fridays so everyone can hook up early in the weekend, just after Italiano. Just let me know, or maybe one of you guys has a better idea on this one? |

My wife is working on the details. I'll let you know when she has booked the hotel. |
working on it.
Where is the best place to stay ??? Cheers, Bill Cook |
Re:
Hey Bill,
there usually is not a "best place" during Concourse weekend, its a matter of finding an available room; anywhere within 30 miles! Not kidding. We usually reserve our room the day we leave for the next year. There are waiting lists at some hotels/Bed and Breakfasts. Some people have been going for 25years+, every year. Most places in Monterey, Pacific Grove, Seaside, and Carmel (all within 10 minutes of each other), carry a 4-night minimum stayover - during this one time a year weekend. Being its January, you'll have much more luck than those who wait til Summer. To get a jump start, try calling the Chamber of Commerce if you have a hard time finding an available room. I believe they help to maintain a call list. Other Information / Lodging / Recreation: http://www.monterey.com/ Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce 380 Alvarado Monterey, CA 93940 (831) 648-5360 I hope this helps as a good start. |
Any updates?
All, any updates?
Any luck finding available rooms - if you did not have one already? Who will be taking their Cobras/Shelby's this year to Laguna Seca for the Monterey Historics (Actual racing or Club meet/parking)? I know some of you guys have Shelby/Kirkham and ERA builds in progress, will you be finishing your cars in time? I'll keep pinging this thread every 30 days to see if there any updates from anyone on it. Thanks! |
I WILL BE THERE!!. My Cobra is done and I wont miss this one.
Shannon Fry Plus- I only live 30 minutes away. If you are having a problem finding a room try in Watsonville.30 minute drive to Laguna Seca. Red Roof Inn. Holiday Inn. ect. |
...got my room booked!
My wife and I will be out there Thursday thru Monday. |
I am having a hard time finding a place to stay. Can I stay with you and your wife?
TURK |
...sure. We have a spare room in the suite.
