Any interest in a Philly area BBQ?
I've noticed a lot of Cobra owners, and potential future Cobra owners, here in the Philadelphia area.
I think it would be a great idea to try to organize some kind of gathering for us all.
The idea I was thinking of is contacting a local park (such as Valley Forge National Park), and seeing if we can't reserve an area for us. Do an afternoon BBQ/cookout in a large open area of the park. This will give us all a chance to get to know each other and just get together and shoot the sh!t. Not to mention it would be cool to have some many Cobras in one place. I'd even kicked around the idea of trying to make it a Team Jenny fundraiser. i.e., so many Cobras in the park is likely to draw quite a crowd. Maybe we could ask for a $1 donation (or something like that) to take pictures in the cars, or a ride in the park, et al.
So, does anyone have any interest in this idea? And when would we like to do it? May, June, July, August, Sept?

Cookouts
Steve,
The gang at Club Cranky will be having a cookout every time we go to the Glen. Of course we only get about an hour to eat when the track breaks for lunch. Beleive it or else, we do have a few excellent cooks among the gearheads.
Your idea sounds great for those that won't be going open tracking with the Crankoids.
Hope to see you at the Glen this year.

I'd be interested, depending on the date.

Count us in. There is in number of Cobras from the Lehigh Valley that would be interested in a cruise with other Cobras. We are trying to put together a cruise this summer with all Cobras in our area.So keep in touch ...........sounds like fun

I'd be interested. There are a few more Cobra owners around here who would also probably like to participate.

There are 2 nice parks in Bucks Co., Core Creek, Langhorne or Tylor State Park, Newtown, both have parking lots, picnic areas and senic drives. A cruise of the covered bridges in Bucks Co. would also be nice. I do not have my ERA FIA yet, but would be happy to work in getting this organized either here or out west of Philly.

Hey Southernfried, I might wait until later tonight to say that if I were you. The first time Vick tries to scramble on that Vet turf, kiss his ACL bye bye.
Cranky, I'm definitely going to attend some Club Cranky events this year. Pocono for sure. Don't know if I'd qualify for the Glen, due to the one roll bar. But I'm going to get to either VIR or Summit Point with my fellow Crankoids. I love to cook, and think I'm pretty good at it too, so I may even try to come to some events without the Cobra just to hang out with you. I want to pick a date that isn't a Club Cranky weekend, so everyone can come if they want to.
I'd love to have the Jersey crew come out. I want to pick a date that isn't on a race weekend (which will be hard to do).
Corky, I was raised in Yardley, so I know Core Creek and Tyler State Park. I was just thinking of Valley Forge because it is bigger and quite pretty.
Rich, I met one of your group at a show in Norristown last summer. It would be great to have your crew come.
My mechanic has a fleet of about 15 Cobras that he works on, and he was trying to get his group together last year, but it never materialized.
I think I just want to chose the best date possible, and invite EVERYONE, and hope that lots of people show up.
Sounds like we'd have a good amount of interest in this. I say we go for it. Like I mentioned earlier, I'm thinking Valley Forge Park, but if someone feels strongly that another place is better, I'd love to hear suggestions. Also suggestions on time of year. Hoping to hear from you guys.

I (we)'d be interested. Philly is a 2 1/2 hour drive from DC. Possibly some other CACC members as well.

Klayfish;
June or July would be a nice time of Year, warm, sunny, kids out of school, not much happening the end of June before the 4th. Permits for a national park? Do you need one for a gathering like this? Size is for Valley Forge Park and accesabilty of the Turnpike and all, senic vista's and all. It would be neat to have a bar b que and do a chilli or ribs cook off also, just a thought, may be too much for planning the first time out. Let's see what happens with the ride thing to raise money for CF. I belong to and organization that's chosen CF at their National Fund Raiser and some support may be able to come foward from them. More on that later.

Sounds like a plan. Best to set a date - July/Aug, plenty of time for everybody to schedule. Always good to have a destination..keeps the sirens happy, to be able to get out and stretch...and other stuff.

I gave a quick call to Valley Forge Park. They gave me the name of the person I need to contact, who works Mon-Fri. But they did tell me we would need a permit, but it is very easy to get. It only costs around $40. I like the Valley Forge idea because it's scenic, historic, and most of all HUGE. It has a 10 mile road that winds all through the park for a nice cruise. Plus tons of BBQ space. And as Corky said, easy availability to most of the major highways.
Corky, I agree that I want to keep this simple. If we do a fund raising thing, I'd like to make it nice and easy. Like you said, the first time out should be simply planned. If it turns out to be huge, we can try to do more the following year. But I definitely want it to be fun for everyone and have some options.
I'm thinking early June, so it is a few weeks before DVSFIII, or July/August (but I'm concerned that it may be too hot). At this moment, I think maybe early June is best, because it's not super hot and it will stay light until 8:00 or 8:30. But those are just my initial thoughts.

My vote is for August, as all of my June, and most of my July weekends are already booked solid............

Bill,
I hope you can try to arrange your schedule a little. Tell the wife who's boss .
Right now, I'm tentatively thinking about Saturday June 7th. That is during a long Club Cranky break, it's early in the summer so that it won't be hot and humid like August. It will also stay light later. It's two weeks from DVSFIII, so it shouldn't interfer with that. My second choice would be later August if June won't work.
I'm going to call Valley Forge Park tomorrow.
