ebay kirkham 427
Did anyone see the Kirkham 427 that was on Ebay a few days ago? It was listed with minimum opening bid of $75,000, but it had not received a bid in the first few days. It was off Ebay prior to the time that the auction was scheduled to end and I could not find it under "completed items". Does anyone know what happened to it?

Ron,
Have you reached the "end of the Internet"?
Is there anything you are NOT keeping track of?
By the way, do you know why that site I used to subscribe to for $1.99 a month is now charging me $2.49 NOW.
Please look into it , would you?
What is the going price on cabbage patch dolls today?
Thanks
TURK

Thanks Ron. I thought that it had a day left. Must be losing track of time.

Should teach others how to do this so he doesn't have to...teach a man to fish and all that...
Now if he could find me a marshmallow recipe using actual mallow syrup instead of corn syrup or glucose I'd acknowledge him as a search god. Not a description or general process, an actual recipe (x cups mallow syrup, y pounds of sugar, mix, spread...). It's a badge thing.

We pride ourselves on complete service....
Taken from a webpage that no longer exists:
Recipe for Marshmallow sweets*
Make sure the mallow roots aren't moldy or too woody. Marshmallow gives off
almost twice its own weight of mucilaginous gel when placed in water.
4 tablespoons marshmallow roots
28 tablespoons refined sugar
20 tablespoon gum tragacanth (or gum arabic)
Water of orange flowers (for aroma or instead of plain water)
2 cups water
1-2 egg whites, well beaten
Make a tea of marshmallow roots by simmering in a pint of water for twenty
to thirty minutes. Add additional water if it simmers down. Strain out the
roots. Heat the gum and marshmallow decoction (water) in a double boiler
until they are dissolved together. Strain with pressure. Stir in the sugar
as quickly as possible. When dissolved, add the well beaten egg whites,
stirring constantly, but take off the fire and continue to stir. Lay out on
a flat surface. Let cool, and cut into smaller pieces.
*Recipe from Herbal Medicine by Dian Dincin Buchman, Ph.D.
Note: If this recipe kills you, it isn't my fault. You just asked if a recipe could be found.
Originally the sap of the mallow plant (found in marshes, incredibly enough) was whipped with honey to feed confections to the pharoes (according to legend, at least).
In the 19th century, french confectioners didn't have resources available to meet demand, so they started finding substitutes.

good job, Steve.
...wanted to help Sizz, but I don't do candy.
(actually, I did some quick searching, because I am always up for a challenge).... found more that I care to know about Mallow and it's uses.
Learned enough to know that the above recipe will, indeed, probably kill you.

Thank you very much for the (potion?) recipe.
I've searched, and found much on the use of mallow, just no detailed procedure/recipe to use to make the things.
I'll have to look up "gum tragacanth (or gum arabic)" to find out what that is exactly (I'm hoping they're two different things as Osama has the monopoly on gum arabic).
Anyways, thanks much. Do you want a sample, assuming someone's still alive to send it?

I'm interested in learning more about that site Turk used to subscribe to... most of "those" sites cost $19.95/month!

Thanks for the compliments
Actually,
I'm the computer geek around here. My old job of night shift network administrator left me lots of time to learn about the net. Consequently, I'm pretty good at finding stuff online. Nothing worth bragging about, if you spend months surfing nightly with a pair of T-1's dedicated to your own use, and official blessing of the powers that be, you'll get pretty good at surfing.
They didn't mind, because my job was "keep the computers up" and I did that better than anybody else. I also found and squelched problems before they affected us, since I kept aware on all the geek sites. I've since moved on, and love the current job (heh..) but I still smile remembering my years at 3Com.

Ron ( Computerworks )
Besides all the searching you do you must have a major version of the Library of Congress at home. My gosh, I search and by the time I find all the information you put out I have forgotten most of it. Geez, and I thought I did a lot of reading and looking through records and museums. You are truely impressive. I think I will throw all of my books and reference material away and just ask you when I need to know anything. Have you thought about working for the Smithsonian ?
