I've been interested enough to at least track this thread and depending on price point (and convincing the wife) could see doing this.

Depending on the volume that K would want to push, I think it would be very helpful to at least see some ideas on the amount of parts/efforts it would take for each Manufacturer. I know that is asking alot and may not be possible, but it's the primary thing that would hold me back. For example, I have a finished Unique and the body swap would obviously be different than for someone with a FFR, Superformance, etc.

Yes, I would be intrested in an aluminium body. Price will be the determining factor. As you state on your web site Mr. Kirkham aluminium seems to me to be superior and worth paying more to have than fiberglass but it still would need to be priced in what I would determine is a reasonable mannor for me to make the leep. It is depressing that money has a bearring on how we play but thats the way it is.

wasn't FFR investigating offering an aluminum body at a price point of around $6,000?

would this be the equivalent?

...if you mean the 'black' rectangular panel on the nose....
...that's just a peel-off sticker, used to I.D. the car while it's in process.

Ron,

I just noticed you have a "Piotr" car. He is one of my best friends in the whole world and certainly--one of the top employees I have ever had. You may rest assured you have one of the finest cars we ever built...errr Piotr ever built.

Brett,

All of our cars have the sticker on them to identify them as we are building them. The real data tag is riveted to the footbox.

I imagine by the end of the sale, we will have aquired enough data to announce if we will be making more replacement bodies. We sure received MUCH more e-mail than I ever thought we would over it.

I have been thinking at some time we might need someone else's car here to do some engineering work to make it more "bolt-on." Problem is, I have no idea what car FFR, SPF, ERA, Unique...etc would be the best to start with. Bigger problem...the car would probably have to go to Poland for a while.

David

How about a "Unique" trade or maybe a "loaner"?

PS - This is meant as both lighthearted and serious. I have a garage problem coming up with my brother being deployed to places unknown (aka Turkey, then Iraq?) in the next week (part of 4ID, Ft. Hood, TX) and with a currently full garage have been looking for a place to store his Porchase 968, motorcycle, etc.

Default Oh yeah!

OK, OK,,,,,,,because you been such a nice guy, I'll buy a frame and you can put your body on it for me. Ship it to Poland, measure it all over. When your done, I'll come and pick it up (with Alu body still on it). No need to thank me, take your time. So,,,,which frame would you like me to get for you?

Ernie

Tongue in cheek and serious at the same time, is that possible?

David,
I will throw my hat in there too. You do the fitting and moulding and riveting and beating up on it, I will provide you with an ERA.

I think your aluminum body would be more likely end up on a high end replica than on a less expensive one. Hard to justify a $10,000 body on a $10,000 kit.
If you are up for it, give me enough time and I will get in line with the boys at ERA that is if They will ever sell me another car!

David,

Interesting decision........... I would think that in order to maximize the "effect" no single frame could be used without neccesarily excluding a lot of potential customers!

From the pictures posted it looks like a universal/somewhat modifiable floor/footbox/trunk needs to be fitted so the body would have enough structural integrity to be mounted as most of the glass bodies are mounted now ,perhaps to include a tube sub-structure where needed.

I would probably be willing to tackle this regardless (mom just didn't teach me any better)

thanks, Karl

Do it the easy way. The 289 leaf spring car is hangin' tough at $23k( probably will go higher at the close tho) Get a rusted/wrecked Mustang, take the front suspension off of it, fab up a bracket to hold the upper trunion to the spindle and leaf spring. Use the motor trans, seats, boogger in the gas tank too.? Get the rear out of a mustang cobra or T-bird, fab a bracket to attatch the rear hub carrier to the cross leaf, use the diff from the mustang/t-bird. buy a windshield from an MG at the swap. There you go, a cheep aluminum car. depending on how for the one at auction goes for, you might do it for under $30K.

Well,

We are really trying to figure out this market. We will be doing some experimenting in the near future.

Stay tuned...some things may go for a deal.

jdog, I keep watching you make posts about replacing your CSX glass body with an aluminum body and I think to myself, "Is he crazy?" You have one of the best looking cars on this website. Leave it alone or better yet "Can you sell me your engine?" You need an upgrade!

No more of those experimentals...but that doesn't mean there aren't other experimental things out there...

Arrow Damn, a day late..............

....................and a dollar short! (Well, that would be a few dollars short)!

I'm gonn'a keep knocking, David!

Rod, thank you. There is something about Black for 'The Look'!

I guess I have Champagne taste on a beer budget. Or make that Aluminum tastes on a fiberglass budget!

I can do a little 'value added' & turn my fiberglass CSX car into an aluminum CSX car for the price of a fiberglass car today. And when they raise the price for the aluminum CSX rollers, I stand to gain a handsome piece of equity. And if I do it right, it will 'look' exactly the same!

No I don't have an MBA, but I did stay at the 'California Holiday Inn @ Folsom' all day!

jdog
P.S. Look at how old this post is, I knew the Kirkhams must have thought of this one already. This all happened before I ever got here!
