re Michigan registration :
contact the local DMV /local Sec'y of State Office. they have a specific check list that your car will have to undergo for licensing. the last person i knew who underwent this got a Safety Inspection Form from Secy of State office. when their spf car was completed ( he did his own engine install at home) they called their local police dept who sent out an officer to complete the inspection form and sign it. then you take the form to the secy of state office to pay your tax bill, title and registration fees. take cash or check, no credit cards.
for a SPF< the SPF dealer will give you a MSO/ MCO. You will need to supply pruchase price as value determination for taxes . process for any other brand turnkey should similarly apply.
if it was to be a kit and not a roller or turnkey , assume FFR type kit , then i assume value is based on receipts of kit/parts/ paid labor etc, but another kit builder club member can assist you with what they needed .
i have not heard anyone complain that their experience was unreasonable or difficult with Mich DMV.
some folks were able to get their cars registered as a 1965 model. otherwise Mich assigns you THEIR OWN MICH VIN and affix a sticker to your frame. then your vehicle vin becomes the one they give you. if the car is registered in 2003 it will then become an 'assembled 2003 vehicle'. my car for instance is registered as a Mich 1998 assembled vehicle with their affixed vin.
join the GLCC (great lakes cobra club) for discussions with other owners who have undergone the inspection process for advance insight. good luck. bill wells, spf 156, bloomfield hills, michigan
