Default Short shift shaft for Tremec T-5

Other than finishline, does anyone know of a site or place to get a short shaft. The one that finish line has is to long and has the fake reverse lock out. I looked in Jegs and Summit catalogs and did not find anything..I tried Ford SVT site and no hits there. This would go on a Lonestar Cobra . thanks, mark

Mark,

I ordered the one from Finishline, and then had it cut and rewelded to the length that I wanted. I you don't want the fake-lock out, order the FFR one.

works great...

Thumbs up Mark.......................

look in my photo gallery at the interior shot and you'll see mine. I have a Lone Star and ordered my shifter from Cobra Restorers. It does have the "faux" reverse lock out on it though.

To Blake- when you had it cut and re-welded did you not have to rechromed it where the cut was. Any pictures of yours?

Mark, I have a Cobra Restorers catalog. They have it. It's a little steep at 224.95

Mark, It's quite easy to modify these shifters to fit comfortably on a T5. On mine , I simply cut the mounting bracket off the bottom of the shifter with a mini grinder and ground a flat area into the new end. Be careful to maintain the correct angle as the bend in the shifter is offset and not parallel to the centerline of the transmission. Next step was to measure and drill two new mounting holes and bolt it on. The fake reverse lock out is easy to remove - all you'll need is a set of allen keys. You can disassemble the spring loaded mechanism and remove the little "T" handle. I eventually chose to leave mine in as it looks OK and doesn't interfere with fast shifting.

Thanks for the tips guys. I was thinking about cutting off the bottom piece and regrinding it flat just last night. I think that may be the way to go..

To Buzz did you order the one from Finishline or cobra restorers?

Mine is from finishline, I will post some photos of the shortening I did.

I didn't have to re-chrome it, because the "cut" is covered by the boot.

Mark, I'm not sure who the original vendor was. It came with my parts order from Unique. Ditto what Blake said - these modifications will be well hidden from view in a finished installation.
