JWheaton: To answer your question, very simply when one goes through the trouble and expense of having a CSX built to exacting details he isn't creating an "illusion" of authenticity, one is building a new Cobra to exacting original specification. No illusion at all. Authentic yes. Vintage no.

When re-creating a new Shelby S/C to original specs in every detail, while expensive you are still a good $300K to $400K from similar spec vintage iron and aluminum.

750hp: Not to defend the owner on ebay but the CSX 4000 is a '65 model. The MSO's also state model year as 1965. I doubt any savy buyer would believe the car was actually constructed in 1965. Accurately they are 1965 model Cobras constructed in 1997 to present. I agree that the ad should be clear on this point.

JWheaton: As to the intrinsic aspects of a Shelby that make it worth paying more than a Kirkham? - Its all subjective and based on what the buyer values. For me it was that it was a Shelby. For me owning a Shelby and a car recoginzed as an authentic Cobra and legally entitled to be called a Cobra was the pinicale. For me and many others the premium was worth owning a Shelby Cobra and the history of the car and the car from which it is a direct decendent. For you it may not be worth it. It may be just a name to you and others. But to me and others it was more than the name it was the aura of having title to a Shelby Cobra and the aura and legend that surronds the Shelby Cobra. There is something intangible enjoyment knowing you are driving a Shelby Cobra.

Question. Would you pay more for a vintage Shelby Cobra over a vintage AC Cobra? Most would and do. Whats the difference? Its just a name. Right???
