Question Clay Models

A few years ago at the Vintage Races at Laguna I saw a vendor that had a display of Clay models. Several variations of various cars such as Cobra, Daytona, GT 350, Mini's Lotus 7's and many others made from clay. They were about 4"- 5" long and were real cute. They were about $35-$40 each. There was even displays set up to resemble a typical used car lot with a salesman with dark sunglasses and cheqered pants leaning up against a car, a gas station and a other small business's. Has anyone seen this type of display at the races in their area. Any information or website info would be appreciated. They were not exacting replicas but real cool and highly detailed, hand made. Unique to say the least.

Thanks
Rick............

Default Scott Schleh Precision Ceramics

Rich -

I think you are referring to Scott Schleh from St. Augustine, FL. He makes ceramic models of all kinds of cars, including Shelbys, Cobras, and GT40's. He often comes to Carlisle, and sometimes to SAAC conventions. My guess he was out to Laguna Seca in '97 when Shelby was the honored marque.

He makes small ones, and also large scale ceramic models. I have a "Cobra Caravan" set made by him, and also a Cobra roadster that is nearly 2 ft. long (you can see it in the bookcase in my gallery). Here is what his Cobra Caravan looks like:

I have taken my cars individually to SAAC Conventions, and had former SAI drivers autograph them.

Checking the 'net, I found this e-mail: MrClayCars@aol.com

and this phone number: (904) 794-1295

He does really nice work.

regards,

Jeff Burgy

Default Scott Schleh Cermaics

Dear Rick;

I have a set of Scott Schleh ceramics exactly like the one you described. It is signed "Schleh '87" and has a platform, used car building, and four individual cars. I was going to sell it on eBay, but didn't think anyone would appreciate it there. If you are interested, please let me know what you would offer for it, and I'll get back to you. It is in perfect condition, although the building was originally glued to the platform and the glue has come loose.
