I've always wondered why there wasn't more effort put into lowering the cars back then. Several pictures (from different sources) show a LOT of body roll. The first thing I did to prepare MY ride for the track was get it as low as practical. Seems to me they were a good 5 or 6 inches in height.
"Open track" racing today. I did "fair", had a great time. A number of cars clearly faster than me, but I DROVE mine to the track AND home! Raced ALL day, from 9 am till 10 pm, whew, LONG day.
