The hot rod with the Cobra chassis showed up at some car event (a SAAC convention?)in Calif. it may have been a cosmic joke--like they were readying the Cobra body but thought they would blow people's minds with a hot rod body.
Re the Ghia Cobras with the lift-off hardtop there are pictures of two different headlight treatments which makes me think there were two versions. One version is shown here.

It was dark blue with a tan leather interior. My theory as to why there seems to be no quoted work order commissioning the two Ghia Cobras from Shelby in any of the Shelby books is that he had a penchant for keeping mum on a new model until he got backing--like the Lone Star. If the project died a-bornin' he would make it disappear.
Or coulda been that when the project started he was buddies with DeTomaso who was buying Ghia (with his in-laws' heavy bread) and partnered with DeTomasp doing the P70 Can Am car. But then Shelby wanted to build more Daytona coupes and withdrew from the P70 whereupon DeTomaso got revenge by changing the name of his Ghia built Mangusta prototype to Mangusta, because in nature the natural enemy of the Cobra is the mongoose.
