Nobody can help you on this one. It is what you like that matters. I looked at your list and none of them have the Beast spirit of a Cobra due to the powerplant. I am not saying they won't run with a Cobra or even better than some Cobras but they are 180 degrees apart.

A Cobra, in my book, is still a musclecar and an exotic is an import car. I would stop and stare at a GT500KR but would not even slow down to gaze at a Ferrari or Lotus.

It is just an opinion.....but I guess that is what you were looking for????

Tate, talking about the Cobra is half the fun...and talk you will, I cannot get gas without having at least an hour set aside to talk. Like the guys above, I say it's not a kit-it's a Superformance. 99% reply "Oh.., how much did it cost?" I say, "well, since you seem like a nice guy I'll sell it to you for $60,000." This stops the kit car talk. The rest is all " the engine is beautiful/the paint is awesome/I cant believe a 520 fits in there" kinda stuff.

I'd go with the Cobra.

People ask me all the time, "What is that, a Corvette?"

And I always answer, "No its an AC MkIII Replica"....

They then say, "AC? I was right...it's a Chivy!!!"

Buy both an exotic and a superformance. Keep'em for a year, drive them, then sell the one you don't want.

Hmmm, those Testorossas are nice. Hmmm, so are those Panteras.

Geez now I'm confused!

Seriously, for me there is nothing close to the feeling and thrill of driving a 427 Cobra on a nice Saturday morning, with the booming sound from the dual exhausts, the wind in my hair, looking out at that hood with the scoop rising up, the powerful accelaration and some vintage 60's Rolling Stones or Steppen Wolf playing on the CD system.

It just doesn't get any cooler than that.

Get what makes you happy. I wouldn't give a $hit what questions some know nothing knucklehead may ask about "is that a kit" especially when the fastest most exotic car they own is probably a Chrysler mini van.

I think the word "exotic" has been replace by "supercar", at least in the magazines. To me, the common Viper, NSX, Ferarri, Lambo or Lotus is not an exotic or Supercar.

If you want radio, AC, and comfort with your speed, then one of many other fast cars will be fine.

If you want raw, brutal, visceral, elemental driving experience, then only a Replica will do.

These are not namby-pamby cars. Nor for the faint of heart, or Gold Chain chaps. If you pick your teeth with a nail, then you may be a Replica man.

Default another train of thought...

Have ya ever heard the saying....

"it's kind of like a Harley... if I had to explain it to ya, you probably wouldn't understand".

Sorry, but it sort of applies here too with Cobras. Hal gets it. It's not an attitude, it's an experience. This is the land where the ROAR from sidepipes is king, Radios don't belong, and two 12" solid black stripes side-by-side with a slight swerve for 30 yards is what we think about in lieu of air conditioning, power steering and power brakes. It's the only car that can have bugs left on it after a nice sunset drive, and nobody comments on it because the car is just BAD A$$. Buffing and polshing is optional, but not required on a Cobra. Just try to get away with this on any other exotic or supercar. It ain't gonna happen.

RAW is the one word that explains it for me.

Y'all know what I'm talkin' 'bout!

A Cobra is the only car in which you bake in, in the summer, yet you take it out in the heat day after day after day... freeze in, in the winter, yet you bundle up and take it out in the cold day after day...... get soaked in, when it rains; (well you dont really do THAT very often!) ((well, HAL might!!)) and yet the smile NEVER goes off your face!!! Cobras are rare enough that people literally stop what they are doing to watch you drive by! They are such *****in' lookin' cars, and the sound out of those sidepipes is somethin' else! And people of all ages will smile and wave to you as you are stopped at a red light. MOST people will wave, or nod, or say "Nice car", or something to that effect! Fortunately, there are FEW jealous jerk-offs that put down you car by saying "FAKE" or "KIT CAR"; it happens to all of us, and we just smile and let them live their pathetic little life!!

From where I stand, you either WANT a COBRA above all else - live, breath, fell the experience, or you're not ready for one, and possibly will not be happy with it. I've had one since 1999, loved the car since I was a kid (1964) and WANTED one ALL MY LIFE! Never have I debated whether I wanted it, only when I could afford one. Give it up, you're not a "Cobra Person".

Default driven one

Tater,

Have you ever driven a 427 big block cobra? Have you ever driven a small block cobra? Have you ever driven a well built kit-replica cobra?

I build them. My first was a 351 W powered Evertt Morrison car. It was the one that taught me about lifting. Do you know what lifting is? Made a believer out of me.

Today, My 300 ZX TT is gone. My Tiger is gone. Still have the 65 chevelle. Its 4 sale. 400 sb, totally modified suspention, 6 speed, and a host of other stuff. Should run with the Vetts.

Premier 427so car. Terror on 4 wheels.
4000 Shelby 427so stroker, Terror sometimes on 2 wheels. (rear)
Kirkham hybreed blown 4.6 dohc, Flyies I think!
ERA mild 428, Smooth.
Midstates crate 512, totally wild and unreasonable.

This is the small list of my experance, The list is bigger than the roster of his club and growing as fast as people get their $'s togather.

If you aint been there, you just don't know. Go driving!!! Then you will know what is for you.

Happy Motoring
Chuck

Default As Wilf would say, "A Big Red Fiat" (Ferrari)

That was a nice list of "exoctics" you have there Taters, any one of which I might consider.

I didn't really understand how owning a Cobra was SO different than owning any other car, until I sold it! Then I was contemplating what to get next. I've had some nice rides in my time all ready!

For me it kept coming back to the Cobra offering all the things I wanted. Performance, head turning (dam few cars can compete in that category), drive to the race track, kick butt and drive home, easy maintainence (there went the Ferrari, what a nightmare the big red Fiats are for that).

Yup,,,,,it all came back to the Cobra. SO,,,,I went and bought it BACK from the guy I sold it to!

Ernie

Get a Cobra and tell the rest of the world to kiss it!

I am having withdrawal symptoms, that are not too pretty. I didn't know it was going to be so hard.

Tater,

Raw? Yep. Pick yer teeth with a nail? Uh huh. Just as much fun with bugs all over the front? You bet. CD system? Say What? That can't be a real Cobra with a sound system!!! You can tell a real Cobra: it has no CD player but it has two big woofers: one outside each door.

I've put almost 8,000 miles on my Cobra since mid-March and I can't drive it enough. On the other hand, I've lusted after this car since I was 15 years old and they were new. This car is noisy, rough riding, cramped, evil-smelling, leg-burning and more fun than anything I've ever owned. It's not a rational thing...

Ride in/drive all the Cobras you can. Maybe you'll get it out of your system. If so, good for you. If not, great for you! There are so many options out there you're bound to find exactly what you want. Don't be in a hurry to make a decision.

Taters,

Sorry ,didn't mean to sound loud and brash!!! Just wanted to impress upon you to go driveing. As a kid, I couldn't wait to drive mom's 63 Falcon Sprint. It was the ultimate, until I drove an SS Chevellle. That principal is true here also.

There are plenty of us out there who would love to help with the information exchange and the driving experience. Try to get with a local club if theres one close. Go visit some builders and manufactures. Most will sit down with you and pull from you information to supply you with " YOUR CAR ". One taylored for you.

The Cobra is a hand full, even for the best of drivers. We always recomend a driving school. I need to do that!

Enough of my bantering. You are looking at a great car already, there is more. I wish I was going to have the blast, you are going to have, all over again. Enjoy the ride!!

The Best
Chuck

I have really enjoyed reading all the terrific replys. You guys make me proud to be part of "Club Cobra". There is only one thing I can add. It happened on a rally last year. My navigator and I walked out of the restaurant after working out our routes for a couple of hours. Ron just stopped and stared at the front of the gleaming red Cobra. From the big smile on his face, I knew something was up. I walked back to the front of the car to see what he was looking at. There, on the nose, was a perfect kiss print in lipstick!

Thumbs up I've Got An Idea

Make Turk "The Porschester" and offer on the 930, put a "Kiss" on the bonnet and get ready to have some fun.
After all, he said he is having withdrawal systems.
I want to hear what he gets next, a 50th anniversary Corvette maybe,

I just have to say that Cobra owners appear to be the most helpful, enthusiastic automobile owners in the world. I've been on many forums and car outings, and all others seem to have an eternal inferiority complex - always trying to put others down in order to lift themselves up.

Cobra owners, on the other hand, are willing - even anxious - to spread this dreaded disease of enthusiasm. Like everyone is saying, the urge to own a Cobra cannot be explained logically. If it could, my wife wouldn't roll her eyes each time I mention the word 'Cobra'. The urge comes from deep within, pulled out by the sound of the sidepipes or late afternoon light shining off the body.

While I'm not yet a Cobra owner, I can't wait to become 'one of them'. Thanks for all the 'newbie' advice.

I know of no other automobile that can make you wake up at 5:00 am (no alarm clock mind you) on a Sunday morning when the whole house is asleep...call your brother-in-law on the phone...

Hey David (his name is David too),

Wanna go for a test drive? We have to check out that new suspension you know.

"Ohhhhhh, duuuuuudddde!!! Where are we going to go THIS time?"

"I don't know...who cares?"

"I'll be ready in 5 minutes."

David

Nothing gets into your blood like one of these.
