Tempting to say the early Hemi Chrysler 300's,,,,,but the hood ornament doesn't fit. Hmmmmm,,,,,,,,,that ornament is unigue, similiar to a Pontiac Indian. Need a better quality picture.

Packards!! I think they had a straight eight? Was it overhead valve or flat head design?

,,,and indeed, WHAT could be so special about a couple of old race Packards in an era when Hudsons ruled the day?

Turk & Ernie,

Those cars are ligit. I saw them on TV in the race and I stopped by the car haulers and looked them over. Very interesting and those hood ornaments would really drive a person restoring one crazy as they are in good shape and very hard to find. Really quite interesting how they fixed them up. Leather straps on the front of the hoods to hold them down and etc. Old Fords, Packards, Hudsons and almost every other make ran in that Pan Americiana race. I like to watch it when they show it.

Ron
