75 cars sold in 2 days, by SHELBY!
I have just heard from a source within the Shelby organization that the past two days have been very productive at the Monterey Historics event.
It seems that the new $39,995 price tag for the 427 S/C has produced an astonishing 75 (yes, that's SEVENTY FIVE) new car sales in just the past 2 days, with more time remaining in the event. Now THAT'S a good weekend. |
What am I missing here, what do you get for $39,950? An FFR with a Shelby ID plate and CSX number? %/
|
does Evan and the others get a DISCOUNT rebate check retroactive to their purchase ?? or are the metal versions still at a premium ? or are they at the new price too ? LOL...easy evan, calm down as i have to deal with dan semko and his rebate inquiry intentions too !!! so then , the value of the used cars at higher prices when new now plummets brought down by the new pricing annc't....what is this world coming too ? a price war just like the airlines perhaps ? ah hah !! doubtful, but puts the higher priced early sai purchases at high risk for big resale depreciation hit...why pay more for a used one than you can buy a new one for ? hmmmmm...bill

Hey I agree thats amazing. :3DSMILE:
I am looking forward to visiting Shelby and looking around after the Run N Gun in October. What would it cost to convert one to right hand drive  Don't worry about the shipping cost or the greedy Government guys here who take another 50% for Custom duty. %/ Costr now up to $60,000 US dollars. No wonder we flop a mould of everything that is stationary **) Good luck to the elderly gent though. Cheers Bernie :3DSMILE: |
Hate to be all those guys that bought those high dollar ones!
|
Believe it or not, A CSX number and the Shelby name has value. So I pose this question, Why on earth would an educated buyer ,buy any brand of car ,new or used in that $40k price range, other than a Shelby Cobra. If these cars are indeed built by CAV,(look at their GT40 reps) the quality is rite there with all the others. So you are basically getting a CSX number for a $1000 or so upcharge. Will the Mustang "donor kits " for $13950 be far behind?

Hissss,
If 75 guys have bought cars in a couple of days, I wonder why no one--0 bids--has bid on the same car on e-bay. Seems to me it would have been much easier to just buy one off of e-bay. What do you think is happening? We have always had pretty good luck with e-bay. Does anyone know if Shelby has prototype of this car at Monterey? I would like to see what they are offering. David:) :) :) |
David, at least y'all put a couple of pictures on your Ebay auctions. They may have more bites if they did that. I find 75 a large number but ?

Whoah, wonder what the truth is??
Well, Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction, and sometimes they are interchangeable. This sure looks like a fire sale to me and not the astute posturing of a thriving company.
I truly wonder what shoe will fall next in this sad saga? John Russell ps. it just may be me, but I have come to wonder about people with nothing in their profile and their initial postings. It can be interesting. |
David
Maybe all the smoke is at Monterey and Ebay will follow after the weekend. I think Pauly boy need to write better copy and include photo's. Right now the Ebay item looks more like a fraud. Lets face it, who would bid anything for a car with no photo listed and a thorough accurate description?

CSX 4027,
Dito i was thinking the same thing. Once bitten twice shy. Skippy. |
I'd seriously consider buying one for several reasons:
1. I COULD and WOULD call it what it is, a Shelby Cobra. And that alone has "value" to me! 2. I think the quality and accuracy will be excellent. 3. THIS price, if your in the market for a new one, is very competitive. Down side? I'd rather have an alloy body any day! I too am quite surprised there is little action on e-bay, I'm not sure what it all means. IF 75 orders have been all ready been placed, pull up a chair, it's gonna be a LONG time before you take delivery! Ernie |
I am sure the Shelby sales people told these people the "honest" details of these new cars. Imagine these guys pulling up next to an aluminum CSX car and telling the owner, "hey I have a new Shelby Cobra also..."
Mr. Excalibur: I am sure these cars are going to be "accurate" Cobra's right down to their fiberglass bodies and "made in South Africa" tag on them. |
excaliber..i hope you would not buy a car because you THINK quality would be good vs SEEING one ? who builds these ? the SA company, ie CAV ? do they have the manufacturing infrastructure for quality volume production ? or the dealer / tech support group ? i would think not, certainly not proven yet . low volume production of gt 40s at what, 3-7 per month is one thing, then how do they handle 75 orders for the roadster ? ... then delivery timing is HOW LONG AWAY ? and did they really sell 75 ? hmmmm.....oil here, as in snake oil is my guess....and resale value of the older full price versions will bottom out quicker than they can produce the cars ! now , try to tell someone how your shelby 4000 is better than the sa/ cav shelby xxxx..hmmm...a whole lotta talking will be done on that thought, eh ? real, yea , original ..no...oh no, your xxxx is the SA version shelby and it is not as good as my 4000 usa shelby..hello hello...get out the popcorn, this is going to be a long one ! bill , real old spf, early version 1996 vintage, still taking a licking and keeps on ticking .

Has anyone heard if there any other strings attached to these cars? Does a Shelby authorized dealer have to finish it in order for it to have Shelby creds?I am also curious to know what the equipment level is at this price point, compared to other South African imports.
|
If you can buy the roller directly from Shelby for $39K, it seems doubtful that the ebay price will end up much lower anyway, so why not buy direct and skip ebay? The Kirkham auctions are different, it seems to me, anyway, in that there's been a demonstrated delta in price points between list and ebay selling prices?

These cars are fiberglass 427s with the Shelby name, a very good bargain for the price. As for my profile and relatively low number of postings in this forum, I joined a couple of months ago after I bought my Ford SVT Cobra with the hopes that there would be some content here referring to my type of car. I have moved on to other sites because there isn't. I do hope to upgrade to a real Cobra and now with the prices being what they are I just may be able to do that soon. Then I'll be in here all the time because the talk here will be relevent to a car I own. |
Hisss,,,yeah I noticed that to. Mostly old syle Cobra talk around here, lol.
There is a lot of "general information" that crosses over the to car world at large and I like that. I understand Saleen is NOT using the double ohc 4.6 V8 but only the single cammer. Whats up with that? Looks like Ford has up-staged him as the "stock" double cammer with super charger is making as much or more power as a modified Saleen single cammer? Ernie |
The funny thing is that Shelby has complained for the last 3+ years that there is now way to make a "Safe, accurate, high quailty (like the originals), etc.." Cobra and then all of a sudden Shelby has found the "magic" to do what others couldn't.
Let me guess, the difference is the aluminum body and savings due to being made in South Africa. If Shelby and all of the dealers are selling 100's at cost, how is anyone making money? |
Bandit ,
Dont you think if SPF can sell em @$35.000 a pop and make a pile of money, that SAI should be able to sell em for $40.000 and do quite well? KK |
