I think those that look down on ones Cobra, also look down on a lot of other things as well. I've got friends that have everything from bottom on the line to top of the line cobras. Just observing the ones that have top of the line, they also tend to look down at other things in life as well. Have only run into a few of those, and can certainly do without them...

Cool

Ron,

Just trying to figure out some peoples mindsets and experiences. I had one a few days ago, and another one a couple of weeks ago.. From discussing it over on the Ffcobra website, I was curious to see what others experiences, and thoughts are on this particular subject. I am most certainly not trying to stir the pot on this one, just looking to see what peoples views are on the subject..................

Sincerely,

Bill "I'm not a car snob, I like them all" S.

Bill,
Taller. Definitely taller.

OK, maybe not. I don't even concern myself with it. I just figure, each to their own.....

Human nature. Law of the jungle. All men are inherently distrustful and jealous of each other. It goes back to the reptilian portion of the brain. The guy with the biggest _______ gets to sleep with the girl with the biggest boobs, because she figures he will be the best provider for the offspring. So, she accepts his advances. Men work together as teams only when a team can accomplish something that an individual alone cannot. But only warily. (i.e.- Kobe and Shaq). Natural selection. Don't let it bother you. You can't stop it entirely, although for modern society to function smoothly, a lot of it has to be suppressed.
Y'all take it easy now, 'cause my car is better than yours anyway.

My guess is the two schools of cobra owners will always cause one or the other to "look down" on the other's car. One class is looking for the "quintessential" (sorry BP) cobra, while others are looking for a hobby. I think the former group is getting smaller with the number of cars out there.

Bill,
Borrow a better car than the ones they own. Go back to the the same events and encounter the same people once more.

If they still blow you off, maybe it wasn't the Cobra after all.

Isn't that the million dollar question.

How about what makes an "econo" Cobra owner have a huge chip on their shoulder?

It all has something to do with "lightening up", which we all need to do from time to time, some of us from minute to minute... Something about the human condition keeps us from maintaining perspective.

As a newbie Cobra owner, my interpretation of this is that people are affected by how other people treat them differently when they drive a Cobra. They love having their egoes stroked. The bigger the ego, the more their panties get in a wad when 1) someone downs their car because it's not 'decent', or 2) someone in an 'indecent' Cobra is getting the same attention as them for a fraction of the cost.

My Cobra is currently in the shop getting ready for "prime time", and I had to drive my run down, hail-damaged, '89 Mitsubishi Mighty Max pickup to work this morning. I pull up behind a Nissan Altima with four apparently high school age girls inside at a red light. I notice the girls are all looking back at me and giggling at my pathetic state. I briefly imagined how they'd be peeing their pants if I was in the Cobra instead. I could only shake my head at their utter shallowness. A similar phenomenon to Cobra owners pissing and moaning over whose car is better. Pathetic, huh?

Not sure I've seen that "attitude" as a problem. The Cobra owners I know personally discuss the differences and celebrate them.

Well,,,,there is ONE Cobra we all kind of agree on as being "sub standard" shall we say. But I think it has as much to do with the owner as the car.

Cool

Roscoe,

I think in regards to Cobra's, the female is the larger of the two . The whole reason why I posted this is because of that idiot at bear Mountain a few weeks back....You remember, the one who had no clue.............Red replica for sale over by the bikes........

Thumbs up "Purists to a Point"

Interesting...................

I think people love these cars so much that they develop a personal standard for what a Cobra replica SHOULD be. Usually, this matches very closely to the one they happen to own. Any car that deviates from this standard runs the risk of being deemed "unworthy".

I understand this attitude, because I know how I feel when I see a classic muscle car (particularly a GTO) that has been hacked, chopped, and abused by someone who does not respect its history. But, it's a lot harder to make this argument with a replica.

The vast majority of Cobra replica owners I have had contact with in the last six months seem to feel that you should build the car that makes you happy. Just don't impose this "standard" on others.

Default Perhaps..........

Perhaps it is the same type of mentality that causes one cobra owner to condemn another cobra owners choice in the way they enjoy their own car

Default The way you enjoy it....

Rick:

I think I understand what you're saying and I would agree...to a point.

If the way an owner enjoys his/her car has no impact on others, there should be no comment.

However, if a Cobra owner indulges in behavior that jeopardizes the safety of others, causes insurance underwriters to refuse to cover these cars, or police officers to "write" every Cobra they see, then he is fair game for criticism.

Also, is there an aspect of personal responsibility? Is there a spouse and children? What happens to them if you and your Cobra don't return home?

I've seen too many lives ruined by foolish acts in a motor vehicle.

Just a thought.
