Smile KMP265 Stainless Frame on eBay

SFCJ,

You asked for it. You wanted me to, "Let the chips fall where they may..." and so, I did.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2429677765

Here it is.

As usual, no reserve.

Don't expect too many of these babies.

I hate rust.

David

Ps. Lew, you are next.

This is gonna be fun to watch.

Did you put your motor in yet? I think it only fair that I drive you up the mountain once you do--let's see what you yell.

Interesting reading about the "sniper" thing. Time will tell how that goes.

David, my god! We have died and gone to Cobra heaven when we view that ad.
What a turnkey minus that is.
I love the advice about snipers at the end, good info and likely a big help to those who sincerely want to buy or bid on the car but don't have the auction sauvy of the ebay vulture.

No reserve?

As Jamo said this should be fun to watch

Jamo,

Motor arrived today. I don't know if I can have it done by Mini Nats...

I need a co-pilot for the new suspension. Are you sure you don't want just a little ride?

I am sure going to have a lot of fun with this baby.

Whaler,

We never put a reserve on our cars on ebay. We think it encourages bidding and everyone KNOWS the car WILL sell to the highest bidder. Some have gone high...some have gone low--just ask SFCJ.

High or low, the car sells. No games, no gimmicks. We consider it advertising.

Just when I think I have seen the ultimate Cobra, you guys raise the bar again. Congrats on a wonderful car. I don't know how much longer I can hold out.

It already worked. The loose aluminum body and frame went for 13,400 with last minute sniping. With an hour to go, sssnakeplissken bid 13,400 or more.

428fastback bid 12,900 one minute early and didn't get it.
Then 428fastback bid 13,300 26 seconds before the deadline.

eBay automatically bumped sssnakeplissken up another $100 and 428fastback lost out.

Ends Aug-03-03 08:46:45 PDT

sssnakeplissken( 3 ) $13,400.00 Aug-03-03 07:56:35 PDT
428fastback( 0 ) $13,300.00 Aug-03-03 08:46:19 PDT
428fastback( 0 ) $12,900.00 Aug-03-03 08:45:25 PDT
streacker( 0 ) $12,500.00 Aug-03-03 06:56:46 PDT

Frankly, I wish it were possible to choose to have the auction end 1/2 hour after the last bid is received. That would get rid of the sniping, or at least reduce it tremendously.

Just my thoughts.

I see. So all you gotta do is put in some HUGE number as your maximum bid and you can beat the sniper! It is a good thing.

.......now if I only knew WHAT the magic number wold be. LOL

Wow, she sure is purrrrty! If it were only a 289, I could justify to the wife why I need to buy it. But how can I explain to the wife why I need to have two 427s

Please forgive my ignorance - I've never paricipated in an auction on any level, much less the internet - but by 'sniping' am I to assume you mean laying in the weeds with an egg timer trying to sneak in a bid at the final second?
If I was a serious buyer, it stands to reason that you let everyone else slug it out and establish the price to beat.
I can't feature myself bidding for 10 days when the only one that matters will likely be the one offered with a minute remaining.
Do I understand the process correctly? And if so, is the practice inherently unethical?

I have been beat a couple of times by snipers. All though discouraging, I can't say it's "unethical". When I lost to snipers before it really pissed me off because I didn't know how the process worked, I do now!

Steve K. offers a valid solution to the problem. If I was to enter the Maximum $$ I was willing to pay NOW and that amount was higher than the last second "sniper" bid I would still win!

The "key" is entering your Max bid early on in the game. A tricky situation if your not sure what you want your max bid to be!

Ernie

EDIT: So there is NINE days left on this auction and the price is ALL READY in the $40's? Ha ha, I'm out! Looks like this bad boy could reach the 60's at this rate.

Chaplin,

Would that be a 289 FIA or a 289 Street car you would need to convince the wife with?

David-
Either would be fine, but she prefers the FIA

David:

Cool, I can't wait to see the next one. There was a post earlier about weights of these cars. I think that you guys were down to 2100lbs and change. Does the ss frame bring you any closer to the magical ton? How about with an aluminum diff and engine block?
