Mathematically calculated 132 mph (at a later point in time, of course). At about this point, I realized;
A) Cobras suck at high speeds
B) The power steering was way over boosted
C) I have no power steering
D) The front end seemed higher than normal
E) If I get caught, I go to jail (yes, public road..sort of)
F) The brakes seemed suddenly inadequite
G) I think I'm going to die
and lastly,
H) Cobras suck at high speeds
Now mind you, the drive train was just warming up(460/560), but the rest of the car was not happy.
From that day on until I sold her, I don't think I ever went over 80!

Cobra top speed
I know that car and driver hit 165 in the Kirkham's original car CSX3104 when they did their test of the Kirkham car. The car was limited by the rev limiter in the MSD. IT redlined in fourth gear.

I don't have a Cobra, but I've gone 195 mph indicated on my ZX12 bike, on a lonely stretch of road, in rural South Texas...it's really windy, and road gets really narrow at that speed! I've always wondered how those windshields on Cobras hold up to the speeds that Cobras are capable of doing...I could only imagine what would happen if the windshield did fly off at hyper-speeds!

how fast?
135 mph on the front straight of the South course at VIR. With Mac, Michlein test driver, hit 140+ on two occassions. Back in my misspent youth, according to the speedometer in a Charger R/T 440, it was pegged on 150. I never believed the speedometer was correct though. I don't think a 440 could possibly push one past 130 or so. A 10,000+ ft runway was shut down at a local airport, a friend was shot with radar and clocked at 156 mph in his SPF with a 427 sideoiler, a Southern Automotive engine. Stroked and lots of hosepower! Tremec 3550 and the standard 3.73 rearend.

Don't know but probably 140+. Speedo only goes to 120, but the Cleveland pulls real strong for quite a ways after that. Car was rock-steady with no frontend lift. Wind in the cockpit was terrible. Got to thinking about the low rated Radial T/A tires and eased out of it.

David,
You eased out of it at 140+????
Would you say you had another 2 or 3 miles more you could have squeezed out of that thing?
Not bad for a SB...

In a Cobra.....166.
In anything....Mach2, but only because people were firing missles at me.

Turk, I have no idea. I was too scared to do anything else but back off the throttle very easily.
