New Details on S.A. CSX

I was told by a good source this morning that the CSX Cobra's are running behind schedule. Cars that were expect to arrive in December will more than likely arrive in January or February. Shelby requested changes to the S.A. Cobra's such as a semi gloss black on frame instead of gloss black powder coat. Better shaping of the fender lips to give it more of a rolled edge. I was also told that the buyer could request a 3.31 gear set in place of the 3.54 gear set. The first S.A.Cobra’s will be shipped from Port of Houston to Vegas for quality inspections. This contact told me that I would be more than happy with the finished product and it would be worth the wait.%/

If I had one on order I would wait a month or two for a better product.

hate to say it but "shades of series 1"

..........I think we all saw this coming. I heard that if you drive by the SA plant, there's never anybody there. What's up with that?
Hey, what ever it takes to get a "better" product on the road, I guess. But, I would be willing to bet that there will be other delays (excuses) after this one. The guys in the midwest that were supposed to get their cars by spring will be mighty upset when it ends up being mid-late summer before they have a car on the road! Good luck and...............remember Series 1 !!!

I've read quite a few threads where there is debate on the quality of service and product coming from S.A.I It is easy for a couple of disgruntled consumers to make a storm, and I've read a few of those. It is also easy for owners of other makes to bash SAI without any data, and I've read some of that, too. But what seems troubling to me is that the only people really defending SA are people who aren't customers of SAI. I've noticed a real lack of SAI customers stepping up and saying "I had a hell of a great experience from start to finish! I HIGHLY reccomend buying from SAI!" FFR, BDR, SPF, JBL, Kirkham; I've read plenty of raves from their customers on everything from finished product to customer service.

I don't know, maybe I've just missed the ones raving about SAI. But if there are any SAI customers out there who've just had a fantastic experience, please speak up. The new glass rollers aren't priced totally out of my reach, and I'd be interested in saving more of my dimes and waiting a while longer if I heard better reviews.

That's funny. I stopped by the "Shelby" plant last Thursday, went in the office and had a brief meeting with Gary Patterson. As a matter of fact Mr. Carroll Shelby himself walked by. Everbody there was busy, busy, busy! I too, have heard that the SA cars have been delayed due to refinements. Relax, they'll get here!

MTrain, I for one have had great success dealing with S.A. I have been treated exceptionally well and customer service is very reasonable. In fact, I have quite a few friends at Shelby now. My dealer, Newport Shelby Cobras, has bent over backwards to see that I am a happy customer. Their product speaks for itself. If the SA 4000 cars aren't up to Shelby's standards, they won't be released until they are correct. Just my .02 cents!

Some companys actually maufacture an acceptable finished product before they sell it. The Cobra replica industry is full of such reputable folks that deserve our business and support. Just a thought.

Slither, Everything you have said is dead on. When I posted this treat it was in no way to bash Shelby, just to keep everyone updated. I was happy to hear that I could request a 3.31 in place of the 3.54 gears. But it also reminds me of the 60's with Shelby doing running changes to the Shelby Mustangs. Good friends with Gary Patterson.

Terry, Maybe the people you have spoken to have been going to the old facility! Shelby recently moved right down the road to a new facility.

I would recommend that anyone looking for a Cobra, look at the Shelby first. It still will be built quicker than the ERA.

Woodz428 11-13-2003 10:33 AM

Terry was referring to the SA factory not the NV Shelby headquarters. No one has clarified whether production is proceeding there. I think that was what Terry was suggesting.

Slither 11-13-2003 10:58 AM

The only car being built in S.A. is the glass 4000 series car. The rest of production is in full swing!:D

RedCSX 11-13-2003 11:02 AM

Woodz,

The factory is behind the new headquarters in Vegas.

Specialk 11-13-2003 11:36 AM

Woodz428,

Who said production has stopped? I have never heard that.

OneFastRide:
What are you trying to imply by writing, "Some companys actually maufacture an acceptable finished product before they sell it."?

If you don't have anything nice to say...

Woodz428 11-13-2003 12:32 PM

RedCSX, the South Africa factory is behind Shelby in Vegas? That's quite a geographical feat. SpecialK,I never said the factory had ceased production. It was initially posted that when you drive by the SA (which I assumed by the lastest use of initials,South Africa) factory that it appeared nobody was there. All the replies were in regards to the Nevada facility and I was re-stating what the initial post said.

RedCSX 11-13-2003 01:04 PM

I not sure why am responding to such a stupid commit. Woodz, The NV facility where they still assemble the CSX aluminum Cobras and FIA and 289 Cobras is behind the new Headquarters. The only Cobra produced in SA is the CSX 4000! OK, you can go back to sleep now.

"OneFastRide:

DKing"?

Sorry DKing, I didn't mean to be so obtuse. What I was trying to imply was that:
1. Some companys actually maufacture an acceptable finished product before they sell it.
and conversely
2. Some companys actually sell a product before they have manufactured an acceptable finished version of the same.

It further occurs to me that in the first instance, one might place a deposit, while in the second instance, one might more appropriately place a bet.

Not meaning to say anything "not nice". Just stating what to me seems to be obvious.

Specialk 11-13-2003 05:55 PM

Sorry Woodz. TerrysSPF, where did you hear that there isn't anybody at the CAV factory? I saw something on the SCOF, but I thought that was all B.S.

Tom T. 11-13-2003 06:11 PM

This is such old stuff, and so predictable. The bottom line is that some/many/pick a number SPF guys will always be pissed at Shelby for suing SPF, and will always be looking for an opportunity to provide helpful comments casting doubt on Shelby's ability/willingness/whatever to do the CAV car. Fellas, it's over--and by the way, you beat him fair and square in court. Let it go.

OneFastRide:

Are you talking from experience, or are you just talking? I suspect the latter...

I thought this thread was about SAI updates, not spreading unsubstantiated rumors and flak.

OneFastRide 11-13-2003 08:52 PM

DKing,

Obviouosly what I'm doing is wasting my breath. Whatever Cobra you choose to own, be it original, continuation or replica,
I hope it will be delivered on time, as promised, and is all you hoped it would be and more. Drive fast, drive hard, drive safe and keep on smiling.
Steve
