Don't get greedy with nitrous - it'll bite you first, and your wallet second...
Start at the lowest HP setting available in the kit, and work up gradually.
Mount the nitrous solenoid at least 1 foot from your carb, and mount the fuel solenoid as close as possible. The further away the nitrous solenoid is, the softer the initial hit. If it comes on too aggressively, you'll likely end up facing the wrong way down the track.
Forged pistons are recommended.
Some form of timing control is adviseable. The more nitrous going into the motor, the less ignition timing you'll need.
Carb jetting is generally fine as is. The extra fuel required is supplied via the fuel solenoid.
What size fuel pump are you using? You may need a supplementary fuel system if you want to go for one of the higher HP nitrous systems.
And lastly, if you ever experience problems missing gears when you shift, think twice about nitrous. Missed gears and free revving with nitrous often equal a holed piston or worse.

Bang for the buck though, it's unbeatable !
