Cobra Make, Engine: What Cobra?

Weren't ALMOST all the engines of the period iron?
I can't understand why they would designate this one as "Iron" not to be confused with all the aluminum blocks out there in the early 60's?

I can see AL designations being used for the aluminum, but not the other way around.
Like I said I don't know.
