Default Right and Wrong Cobra for BIG man?

Brand new here and in the market for a Cobra, but not sure which ones I'll fit in. I'm 6'4" or so and 250#, so my guess is that most of the 90" wheelbase cars are too damn small. Would appreciate any assistance here - what cars are big enough, which are definitely too small, etc.

I own a 90"wb Hunter and it is a little tight on the legs. I would say most 90" cars are not for tall drivers. I have drove a 96" wb Hunter and it felt like I sould lay down in it. Hunter has redesigned his frame to give an additional 1" of leg room in the 90" car. He can also custom build a footbox for taller drivers. One of his customers is 7' tall and Randy Hunter is about 6'-4" himself.

You do not drive a Cobra like any other car.

At 6'5" and 225 lbs. I fit fine in my SPF. My car a late enough to have dropped foot boxes (begining somewhere around car 700). I have sat in both dropped and un-dropped foot box cars and I think it really does make a difference for people with long legs. The top of my head is slightly above the windshield but my ball cap does not come off even at freeway speeds. Just remember, there is no such thing as a wrong Cobra.

Thanks for the replies. What about leg room in the Lone Star, Shell Valley, B&B, etc?

SmallScott,
With the right mods (such as the ones on my 90" car) you will actually have to stretch to reach the pedals.

Default LEG ROOM

I'M 5' 10" AND DRIVE A LONE STAR. LOTS OF ROOM. I HAVE 3 OR 4" BEHIND MY SEAT. I HAVE ADJUSTABLE SEAT FOR THE DRIVER SIDE. I WISHED I HAD MOVED MY PEDALS 2" TO THE REAR. I BELIEVE IT WOULD HAD SUITED ME BETTER. MY SHIFTER IS IN THE CORRECT PLACE, BETTER THAN THE OTHER COBRAS I'VE BEEN IN.

YOU NEED TO SIT IN A LONE STAR, BEFORE YOU BUY. DRIVE IT IF THEY WILL LET YOU!

SEE YOU IN THE SPRING!

Big Scott,

I'm 6'-2", 250#'s. We've got a 92" wheelbase Backdraft Racing replica. I've riden and driven a couple of 90" cars and I think ours is much more comfortable. We've gone on road trips where we are in the car for 8 hour days.

Big Scott

Just ordered a Kirkham..... which is a 90" WB....

They formed the wheel well and modified the seat so it's 3-4" wider and moved the seat all the way back for the right position.

We needed to move the pedals 3" and David let me know that he will be able to modify the pedal box to get the 3".....

It was very comfortable when we got everthing moved and pedals will be perfect for us folks who are big and Tall....

To Quote Jamo..... "It's great to be the standard of Excellence"

I'm sure it will fit like a comfortable chair when they get done....

Morris,

If you aren't happy with the fit, I'll eat the seat and start again.

We did some tests on the dropped footbox today...VERY PROMISING. I think all of the big guys can now rest at ease with our new "Jamo" option.

I wonder if anyone here ever considered designing to the current 95th percentile going in?

As opposed to trying to make something work that was not thought about or designed in the first place?

But rather copied/carried on from something from the 50's.

Which was copied/carried on from something in the 30's.

Which was originally custom fitted to Lord Worcestershire in the 20's.

With a inline 4 cylinder Austin engine.

Hi all

I have an extra 2" in the doors of my car and no one has picked the extension. At 6"0" and reasonably big in frame and beer storage area I needed the extra room and it has helped.

I am keen to hear a bit about the dropped footwells. I checked out the Midstates big boy car in Missouri at the 'Run N Gun' and they dropped the floor in a box style design.

Has anyone lowered the floor at an angle towards the front from in front of the seat. I felt just dropping a box section may catch your foot or heel??

Ideas??

Cheers

Richard We did. Our cars were designed from the start for guys over 6.2" every one gets a custom seat and peddle assembly a 6' 6" guy looks through the windshield not the frame. Our largest customer to date was 375 pounds. Fitting Big guys is what we do best. We have the biggest door and foot box available in any car of this stile. Bill E

Pat B.

I do not think that it takes any brilliance to do what I spoke of.

Honestly, everyone of the manufacturers/builders of these cars has an opportunity to make the footboxes any shape and length that is needed. Longer, wider, dropped etc. (Within certain constraints, of course. But that's a BB thing.)

Or to put the pedal assembly where they wish, make the seats wide enough to fit the adult US male as per David K's post. Etc. Etc.

Really it is but the work of a moment to sort out SRP point, H point to heel point, seat height and reach numbers.

That is just workman like design.

Not a leap of invention. (That takes brilliance.)

Bill E,

Cool, you have obviously done what is required in your design to fit humans. Now the rest of the folks need to step up to the plate.

Folks, as Short Bob has posted many times, You can fit real humans in these things if you just think about it and design to it.

Richard -

Your point would be obvious if this was Club Hot Rod or something.....would you make the same comment on Club Lotus 7?

Of course most of these builders/manufacturers could do as you say....they could also build replicas of 59 Cadillacs - but they don't, they are trying to build replicas of a Cobra.

Then again - as you once said - you aren't really in the Cobra replica business. So you can pretty much take as many judgements as you want - you don't have the same constraints as the other manufacturers/builders do.

Technically, I think your cars are cool but to me they are neither fish nor fowl - not a good replica or a good race car.

What exactly ARE your cars designed for anyway? Is there a race series for them somewhere ?
