It's Official CNN Says Shelby is A Muckraker

http://money.cnn.com/2004/01/05/pf/a...dup2/index.htm

http://money.cnn.com/2004/01/05/pf/a...elby_cobra.jpg

"...Texas muckraker and racing legend Carroll Shelby re-teamed with Ford to create the concept Shelby Cobra -- a "minimalist" muscle car with no radio, roof or cupholders. But it's got plenty of juice: A 6.4-liter V-10 with a shocking 605 horsepower and a 190-mph top speed. On the fleet heels of Ford's $139,995 GT supercar, a reborn Shelby might seem a head-scratching proposition, at least in terms of the business case. But Ford officials hinted strongly that a version of the show Cobra could emerge hissing into dealerships at some point in the future..." - Lawrence Ulrich, Money Magazine, as reported on CNN

Your pal,
Meat.

Interesting noun, muckraker. "He who cannot look to heaven because he is so obsessed with the muck of worldly profit".....in Pilgrim's Progress, by John Bunyon.

Mark IV 01-07-2004 07:20 AM

Well...

...if CNN says it, it MUST be true!

Meat, the rumors of your demise were untrue!

How goes the M40?

Why put a spy in the petagon when CNN will do the job for free:LOL:

Saying that CS is a 'muckraker' is as about as news worthy as Pete Rose admitting he gambled on baseball. Like we didn't already know!

Pete Rose betted on baseball? :D A big tadoo about nothing in my book. I may be the minority but I don't care about a persons problems/addictions when it comes to crap like this. The man was a great baseball player who deserves a seat in the Hall of Fame regardless of what he is charged for. Condemn him to the deepest darkest reaches of hell but that will never change the feats he accomplished as a player.

Where's Peter Arnett when you need him?

Excaliber 01-07-2004 03:07 PM

Tongue Pirate,

That certainly applies to Shelby! Say what you will about him, that does not erase his GREAT accomplishments in the automotive world (now don't even start with me about what he did or didn't do :D ). He's MY hero, so there!

Tomgue Pirate:
Sure, after all, who cares if he was a role model to millions.
Of course, we've got plenty of criminals that put on uniforms these days. (and some that put on suits)

Tongue Pirate 01-07-2004 04:10 PM

I think that most to whom he is a role model will not remember him for his wrong doings but for his contributions on the field. It is a real sad & unfortunate story. He was wrong for betting on his team if that is what happened & punished he should be, like anyone else. As with Shelby too you cannot take away the things he did to make us smile no matter how poor his judgement in other areas.

Bluesman 01-07-2004 04:24 PM

I think what is happening with the legend, Carroll Shelby is this;
We want to remember him with a life time batting average of
.300 and not to end up watering down his almost mythical status
by staying in the game and retiring with a dismal life time batting
average of .250. Too many icons don't know when to call it quits
and just relish in the fact that they went out as a winner. I hate to see
him put his name on everything. Money I guess. I want to remember him as the bib overall 1959 Le Mans winner, chicken
rancher turned world racing champion, Ferrari killing, super smart
hero.

And that's the crux of the matter; we want to remember him for what he accomplished 40 years ago, he wants to make more money off his name than he has time left to spend.

That's the difference between a legend and a ... muckraker.

Your pal,
Meat.

KobraKarl 01-07-2004 05:42 PM

I'll give the benefit of the doubt to any man more concerned with the future than his status as a legend....in his mind , or mine.
