I think that most to whom he is a role model will not remember him for his wrong doings but for his contributions on the field. It is a real sad & unfortunate story. He was wrong for betting on his team if that is what happened & punished he should be, like anyone else. As with Shelby too you cannot take away the things he did to make us smile no matter how poor his judgement in other areas.

I think what is happening with the legend, Carroll Shelby is this;
We want to remember him with a life time batting average of .300 and not to end up watering down his almost mythical status by staying in the game and retiring with a dismal life time batting average of .250. Too many icons don't know when to call it quits and just relish in the fact that they went out as a winner. I hate to see him put his name on everything. Money I guess. I want to remember him as the bib overall 1959 Le Mans winner, chicken rancher turned world racing champion, Ferrari killing, super smart hero. |
