Did Shelby go to that much trouble to "dummy" the hood and trunk hoops in their glass cars?..........did they also build their Glass cars with an all aluminum trunk?

don't think so... Kimmons trunk is "over-riveted" on the trailing edge of the floor of the trunk, with twice as many rivets as KMS body.
I have a better trunk shot of this car and it shows 'normal' rivets.

For $105,000 you guys thought it would be aluminum? With 427 FE motor!!

Aluminum cars do come with aluminum, or fiberglass or even carbon fiber hood sccops..

I doubt it that Carrol Shelby dummied the hood to look like aluminum. I think most people can tell alloy from glass.

I had the back of the hood of my ERA painted silver even though the car was blue. I thought it looked better.

I thought it looked better in aluminum looking finish (kind of silver ) as compared to painting it to match the outside color, which was dark blue.

It is fiberglass. You can see the 1" square tubing in the forward area of the trunk, and the flares are the same as a 'glass car.

Some of the ERA cars (mine included) have aluminum panels fixed to the inside surface of the hood to make it look like an aluminum piece when the hood is up. Also, the ERA scoops are rivetted on to simulate the mounting of the original scoops. Perhaps Mr. Shelby does the same.

I also was surprised that there were no original cars up for auction this year. Perhaps the economy scared off potential sellers.

Was disappointed to see the Contemporary go for 23K. Nice buy for someone. What are the buying and selling costs to Barrett/Jackson?

The car definitely looks like a glass car.

First, the underside of the front hood has what appears to be aluminum colored paint or covering with obvious lines. If it was an aluminum hood it would look, in most cases like smooth sanded aluminum or painted the color of the car. In short the hood doesn't look like it would be aluminum.

Second, aside from the 1" tubing as pointed out by SpecialK the inside edges of the fender leading down to the trunk are too wide/deep and squared off. The depth of the edge on aluminum cars is smaller and rounded off due to the aluminum being bent over the tubing for riveting.

At $105K it was a fair price. Certainly returned to the buyer close to if not more than what he probably paid for it.

It seemed clear that cars with Shelby's name and history connected to it of any sort broght the money.

While the Contemporary was a nice car it clearly didn't fetch what it should have at $23K. That car was easily a $35K to $40K car and probably cost the owner more when new.

Point is it seems like a "name" does matter to the buying public like it or not.

There you go again with the "name" statement. Since both buyers and sellers contribute 8% to BJ, the prices were high on many vehicles. The street rods and modifieds out distanced the expected marques like Ferrari and even the classics like Auburn and Cord. I think the Vettes were exceptionally strong especially the 63 split windows and the 4 Calloways. The aura of the auction frenzy! Where are these buyers when we're selling?

The rhetoric on the CSX4000's was weak despite the hammer prices but if you look at the trend, the baby boomers are resurging towards muscle cars, replicas included. The GT 500's and the SR edition surprised everyone especially when you view ebay's current stock listings.

My glass replica has a smooth sanded, body color painted underside of the hood.....as smooth and shiny as the outside. A lot of glass bodies are finished that way. It's just as easy to finish the underside as it is the side facing out. Just depends on the level of detail of the builder and/or manufacturer.
