One of the events that serious car junkies look forward to is the annual Barret Jackson car auction, coming up January 21-25. This is an Oregon car. Oregon title lists it as a '67 Shelby Cobra. Built in 1995 in Oregon by John's Custom Fabrication. John and his crew have impeccable reference in the Western United States. At the heart of this car is a thumping ported and polished big block Ford with 427 low-riser heads, four-speed and Ford narrowed 9-inch rear end. Among the many new goodies installed by Schweitzer Automotive Center are a new gear-reducted starter, new polished alternator, new fuel pump, new high volume oil and pump and polished intake manifold. The cooling system is fresh too, including new electric fan, custom Billet reservoir and thermostat, the brake system is new also, including master cylinder, power booster, lines and proportioning valve. The top end was just refreshed 1,500 miles ago with new valves, a valve seat grind and springs. This Red Cobra also features custom headers and 4-inch powder coated side pipes, VDO gauges, trunk mounted battery and all period-correct Compmotive spinner hugged by B.F. Goodrich radio T.A.'s. Just like a real Cobra. We tried to be true to Carroll Shelby's dream with this car. We think he'd approve.

I was thinking the black Shelby 4000 series would be the best buy for the money (#4) if a buyer was looking for a "Shelby." I assume it's 'glass?

Question

Lurk,

I agree about the black one probably being the best buy for the money, but what about the title? Since it is titled as a 1965 Roadster, can it be in the registry as a real Shelby? The title would be my biggest concern about buying that car.

I'm sure it's very nice- but I bet it won't go at a bargain price.

I belive the birthday Cobra is from Sanderson Marketing: http://www.sandersonsales.com/images...antomcobra.htm

There's an AutoWeek article about the phantom Cobras at http://www.autoweek.com/cat_content...._code=03217283

Stayed up to watch the auction until it went off the air and plan to watch when it starts up again today at 3pm. I did not see any of the Cobras except 1 scheduled for today. Top bid so far went to a 1967 427 Corvette Conv. in "almost new" condition, $130k?. Also saw another Corvette listed as a 67/427 go for 1/2 that - probably because it was not really a 67 but a 66.

Any idea when the Cobras will hit the block? The black one is near identical to mine. It should be interesting to see what it goes for.

The all the Continuation Cobras are very nice cars. Of course I like the black one the best. I'm not sure I like that "ghosted" Cobra on the Birthday Cobra.

I'm hoping we get reports from CC members there... I agree... don't think the birthday Cobra is worth the extra $x grand for a paint job.

The black one would be my pick

I'd say that's the high end of retail- not a bad purchase (if it has all the "right stuff"), but no bargain either.

...normalize that for the B-J hype and it puts the market at $90-95k.

I believe that black car was glass and not aluminum so the seller made out pretty good in todays market.

st-
yup I think glass.

check your tivo's guys, when the hood was up on the blk 4000 you could clearly see the rough texture (painted silver) and the fact that the scoop was molded in.
If it was a alum. car it had a glass hood.

these are some strange times

Those rear fenders sure don't look like a Kirkham. The rear photo also shows the rear lip to be much wider than my car.

Nose and trunk metal look like an alloy car....plus tank looks like KMS 42-gal...but, gas cap "frenching" looks deeper than mine.

.....KRIS!!!?
