Default Gumball Rally.

Got a phone call today and was asked if i would like to enter this years Gumball Rally, leaving from Paris France touring through Spain and Morroco a total of 3000 miles.Condition was that i enter with my car.

My question is did anyone enter any of the past Gumball Rallys ? Or know anything else about this event ?

Would you enter if you had the chance ?

Here is the site.

Skippy,

Oh yeah! It looks like a lot of fun.

From the information I have read about last year's event, it was more of a race than a rally. A team in a low profile car that did not recieve much police attention won it. All the high visibility cars recieved multiple tickets and trips to police stations. Some cars were impounded.

My Navigator and I had considered running this thing. This is a high-roller party, though. The entry fee is staggering, but get you first class accommodations with the best food and drink.

My Arntz Cobra is set up to be as comfortable as possible for long distances. With the hardtop on it runs 110 to 120 easily. (Loud though!) It has a backup fuel pump and ignition system. It has the best radar detector, Laser jammer and Police band radio detector. I've run many 12-hour rallies and last year we took first place in a 16-hour event. However, I would have to get in BETTER shape to run that one. Running at really high speeds on public roads puts a tremendous strain on your body, especially your eyes. You have to be planning very far ahead. At 57, I'm only good for an hour or so. These guys run those speeds for 8 hours/5 days. I know I would have to do some serious physical training before an event like this and have several thousand dollars in pocket money ready for on-the-spot payment of tickets. Air shipment of the car to and from the event would be about $10,000 from California.

If I had a co-driver who I could trust with my life; if I lived in Luxembourg; if I had my car set up perfectly with backup systems and high speed tires; if I had $10,000 in disposable cash; COUNT ME IN!

Paul
