Default nice

I have this video saved on my harddrive had it about 3 weeks now.. but I love it... other than cobras I have HUGE passion for WW2 planes.... that spitfire probably has the Merlin 66.... my personal favorite.. I had a chance to buy a Merlin 66 once! but some geezer bought it before me The engine was beaituful, the same engine they put in the Spitfire Mk IX wow sexy engine it was! If I cant get that I'd lole a Junkers Jumo 211 (Ju-87 stuka engine) or several others lol anyway!

great post

I always wondered what it would take to get that Alain deCadenet flustered but I didn't think it would have to be a vintage fighter plane aimed at the back of his head!

I'm not sure what Alain said after the fly over, but it sounded very "un-english" of the ol chap.

Exclamation WoW! Don't 'Ya Love Old Planes?

RallySnake:

Can't really tell what the cameraman did, the camera was shooting from a tripod. The cameraman was probably laying on the ground as he could see what was coming. I would like to see that same clip with the camera being shot from the shoulder (no tripod). LOL

How would you like to have been a German soldier in 1943 travelling in a VW across open land in Normandy and and see that comin' at ya? Sure would get your attention. Would definitely need a change of underwear if you survived.

GREAT video thanks for sharing it!

Steve,

You're probably right about the tripod. However, if you watch carefully, you'll see he pans slightly to the right to pick up the approaching spitfire. So, he had to be holding the camera at that point. Even if he just released the camera to drop to the ground, there would have been a slight shake. This is the work of a professional.

As an infantry man on the ground, having that thing come at you with guns blazing would have been terrifying. I would think that the odds of him ctually hitting you with a bullet are somewhat slim.

Exclamation I'm Dead, Hit or Not!

Hey Paul..................

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't have to be hit. I'd just be scared *hitless and fall over with a heart attack.

The allied pilots got pretty good at hitting ground targets though. By '43-44, the Germans were only moving equipment at night. If you read any of the memoirs of German soldiers, they all hated American airpower and artillery. The P-47s and P-38's (the Germans called the P-38s "Forked-Tailed Devils") in particular wreeked havoc on German ground targets.

My Dad was trapped behind German lines for three days during the Battle of the Bulge. He said the Germans kicked butt for the first five days or so. Then, the weather got better and the skies cleared. It was payback time and death for many came from above. Must have been Hell on Earth.

On the modern battlefield death also comes from above. It's just the guy who pulls the trigger may be hundreds of miles away. Nintendo Death!

An Added Afterthought:

If they could locate Osama bin Laden (aka Osama been Hidin') ..............

Using a Hellfire equipped drone and a satellite uplink, President Bush could probably pull the trigger from inside the Oval Office. Wouldn't CNN love that?

He wouldn't have to hit you with a bullet during a strafing run. I'd likely die of fright any dam way!
