Thumbs up Why I will never live anywhere else!!

This was posted over at ClubHotrod and I thought it should be here as well.(if it has already been posted here.... so What ,everyone should read it more than once anyways)

with all of the nonsense that has been going on here lately,
what with ridiculous half time shows, People questioning whether or not Saddam is a dangerous man, Innocent little girls being abducted and murdered while walking home from a friends house. This article brought a lump into my throat and reminded me why we are in the Greatest(albeit sometimes dysfunctional) country on earth.

We rarely get a chance to see another country's editorial about the USA.

Read this excerpt from a Romanian Newspaper. The article was written by Mr. Cornel Nistorescu and published under the title "C"ntarea Americii meaning "Ode To America") on September 24, 2002 in the Romanian newspaper Evenimentulzilei ("The Daily Event" or "News of the Day").

An Ode to America~

Why are Americans so united? They would not resemble one another even if you painted them all one color! They speak all the languages of the world and form an astonishing mixture of civilizations and religious beliefs. Still, the American tragedy turned three hundred million people into a hand put on the heart. Nobody rushed to accuse the White House, the
army, and the secret services that they are only a bunch of losers. Nobody rushed to empty their bank accounts. Nobody rushed out onto the streets nearby to gape about. The Americans volunteered to donate blood and to give a helping hand.

After the first moments of panic, they raised their flag over the
smoking ruins, putting on T-shirts, caps and ties in the colors of the national flag. They placed flags on buildings and cars as if in every place and on every car a government official or the president was passing.

On every occasion, they started singing their traditional song: "God Bless America!" I watched the live broadcast and rerun after rerun for hours listening to the story of the guy who went down one hundred floors with a woman in a wheelchair without knowing who she was, or of the Californian
hockey player, who gave his life fighting with the terrorists and prevented the plane from hitting a target that could have killed other hundreds or thousands of people.

How on earth were they able to respond united as one human being? Imperceptibly, with every word and musical note, the memory of some turned into a modern myth of tragic heroes. And with every phone call, millions and millions of dollars were put in a collection aimed at rewarding not a man or a family, but a spirit, which no money can buy.

What on earth can unite the Americans in such a way? Their land? Their galloping history? Their economic Power? Money? I tried for hours to find an answer, humming songs and murmuring phrases with the risk of sounding commonplace.

I thought things over, but I reached only one conclusion...

Only freedom can work such miracles.

Nuff' said.

The word FREEDOM above all say's it, makes one want to look at the political scence when they vote more closely, and the agendas of certain Political Seekers in our great Land that want to ROB FREE AMERICANS of any of our freedoms we take so lightly.

Nice to see someone out there has a clue about us.

That is one thing that the terrorist don't seem to understand. Will attacks on the U.S. get us out of the middle east? No, it will get us MORE in the middle east. Bin Laden, behind action in Afghanistan, somalia, WTC bombing and destruction, USS Cole, etc certainly doesn't get it. Don't these people read history?

The WTC bombings did a couple of things, united this country in a way that we haven't seen since WWII. Before 9/11 I must have been the only one on the street flying a flag 24/7. Now my street is one long row of flags. We invaded Afghanistan to get Bin Laden. We took a proactive move against Iraq (long topic to debate here), we shut down many terrorist funding and ceased there assets, we hunt them down with impunity. They just don't seem to get that it makes it tougher on them and their cause then before. Notice Iran has been a bit quiet of recent? They think they are next! Wait and see what happens when Castro kicks the bucket!

Are the terrorist attacks on Isreal working? Nope. When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor becuase we seeked to block their imperialism and persuit of oil in the Pacific did we say, 'Oops, we are sorry. Go ahead and do what you want'. Nope.

Attacking the U.S., its people and territory only will get you one thing......... a big can of wup a$$. Terrorism does not work, the need to get their head out of their a$$ and see the light. But I fear that they are so blinded by their rage that only death will satisfy them. Attack and they will get their wish.

I am not proud of every action this country has taken throughout its history. We are not perfect. We are responsible, at least in some way, for the suffering of many. But we are also a very charitable, peace loving bunch. We give away more aid world wide than ALL other countries combined. Stop attacking each other, and us, and we can help more. Of course some don't want the help, fine. Just don't mess it up for those who do.

In short, don't pi$$ us off and we will get along just fine!

Rick

Default It's not FREEdom..........

Great article, thanks for sharing it.

It is sad that so many people feel freedom is free. It never has been, I can never see a time when it will be.

The cost of freedom has always been very high and it has always been blood. It will always be blood. If there ever comes a time when we, as a people, are not willing to pay the price, our freedom and the freedom of future unborn generations, will cease to exist.

I sleep in peace this night knowing there are heroic men and women of the American military and intelligence communities who stand in harm's way to protect, me, my family, and our way of life.

God bless 'em.

By the way: Allied WWII veterans are passing away by the thousands each week. If you know one, take a minute to tell him how much you appreciate what he did 60+ years ago. It will be a minute well spent and you'll never regret it. It won't be long before they're all gone. I doubt most of us can ever begin to understand the sacrifices that generation made to ensure the freedom we enjoy today.

God bless all of our vets! God bless America!
