Smile "Cobras N Vettes" customers/owners please read!!!

I just discovered this kit manufacturer/builder, located in Glendale, Arizona. When I learned from their web site ( http://www.cobrasnvettes.com/index.html ) that they have a new Cobra roadster kit using the C4 Corvette as the donor I almost fell outta my chair--cause I just happen to have a C4 and I've always thought the C4 chassis would make the ultimate Cobra Replica!

If you have--or if you know of anyone who has--a "Cobras N Vettes" "Cobray", built from either a C3 or their new C4 donor kit, PLEASE tell me everything you know about the vehicle and Cobras N Vettes!!!

I think I remeber seeing an article a few months ago in Kit Car magazine. As I recall, the body shape was way off. It may have looked similar to a cobra, but nothing I would be caught in.

Sorry, just my opinion.

I think there is one or two of each that either use the chassis or just the suspension pieces. Check with Kit Car on the issue involved. Seems to me there is one in this months as well. The cars that use the vette chassis look really long to me.

NO--It the C4 kit shouldn't look longer--unless you think the other Ford-based kits look longer! *The C3 kit probably did look longer, though--it had a 98" wheelbase! The new C4 kit has a 96.2" wheelbase and you can order it with Ford engine mounts! Basically, this company is using one of the world's best handling COMPLETE chassis, which REALLY ought to drive down the price of the kit. I really like the idea of using the '84 C4 chassis since the '84 is the best handling vette to date: http://www.c4restore.com/factoid.htm#best --AND there were SO many '84's made that they're a dime-a-dozen these days at about $3000 for one still in a drivable condition!!!

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the potential here!

Totally confused now. Cobra has a 90" wheel base. To my knowledge is not a single replica made that uses a ford donor chassis.

I went to the Cobra and Vettes site. That is not a standard wheel base car, it is visably longer. Is it me or does some of the parts pictures look straight out of the finish line catalog? Heck, I think that is Enzos car! I did notice they have a link to the finish line so perhaps they have a deal going.

What is a "standard wheel base car"? What do you mean? The Backdraft and the West Coast kit don't have a 90" wheelbase like the original either--lots of other kits have longer than a 90" wheelbase. The C3 kit was REALLY long, but the C4 kit is the same length as the West Coast kit.

Standard wheel base is 90". Doesn't mean you can't build one longer. Just to many of us it looks a little different or strange. But, there is an upside to the longer wheel base. Neither backdraft nor west coast use a ford frame. You can also build a 'cobra' based on a miata.

"You can also build a 'cobra' based on a miata."

--and live to tell about it?! At least Cobras N Vettes uses an American made donor--and one that will accept a Ford engine and tranny!

The unwritten law states that a decent replica body will be close--very, very close (it absolutely can't be visibly longer) -- to the same dimensions as the original and it must have Ford power. AND, if it has ANYTHING made by Chevrolet in it it's no good.

Got it.

Gee, that's too bad cause I'm thinking this new C4 kit probably costs about 5 grand or so (the longer C3 kit costs under $5000). Too bad--one could wind up with an incredibly nice decked-out "Cobray" for uder $15 G's that would definately out handle any other Cobra replica around!!!

Dang!!! Who writes these unwritten laws, anyway?

Nothing we can do but accept it, I guess.

Hey man, nobody's telling you what to do. If you want it, go for it. Whatever floats your boat.

Then I guess that eleminates Cobranvettes

I have no idea where this thread went wrong. I was trying to help you find the information you wanted. But it seems to me you are getting a little hot under the collar. No need.

I added that I think, as many do, a stretch car does not look quite right. Opinion. Not fact.

Like Tom said, whatever floats your boat. My feeling as well.

By the way, how can one write an unwritten law?

Rick

All I have to say is why?

A Corvette C4 would make the perfect Cobra replica?

Corvettes are the anti Cobra.

Sell the Vette and by a SPF.

I'm not miffed, rdorman! I just think it's kinda comical...no I think it's REALLY comical! The Chevy crowd thinks that the Ford crowd is a bunch of Communists...or vice versa, depending on which crowd you belong to!

And, hey, I didn't write 'em--those unwritten laws--don't get on me about it!

If you turn a Corvette into a Cobra, what does that make your new creation? An anti-Cobra-Cobra? Does it reflect on the owner too--maybe that makes the owner a switch hitter...or a cross dresser! --or both!

I hope I haven't offended anyone--really!

That is good! I was getting even more confused

An anti-cobra cobra, hmmmmmmmm. I suppose so. By the way, getting much better with those smilies

OK, now that we know we did not have a misunderstanding........ I have to give you some friendly $hit for

"...C4 kit ... that would definately out handle any other Cobra replica around!!!"

I have no personal long track experience with the C4 but I have been outrunning them in SCCA for a while. And my car is no where near set up to autocross (not to mention an antique suspension). I think on a long track, you would have some takers as well

Where are the Cranky boys when you need them? Richard Hudgins, you may have a taker here

Remember, friendly give and take, the usual 'busting of the balls'!

OK--check this out: http://www.c4restore.com/factoid.htm#best

Yes--the '84 Z51 Corvette handles better than any vette ever made to date. Drop in your choice of quality, reliable Ford muscle, and wal-la (presto!) -- you've got an anti-Cobra-Cobra that can out run AND out handle ANYTHING on the road. The curb weight of the '84 is 3192 lbs--with a Cobra body it might just wipe any asp with the Chevy power train still in it!

Can I say asp here?!

The anti-Cobra-Cobra --and kind to the pocket book as well!

...and just for the record, I'm not a switch hitter or a cross dresser!
