Default Hens teeth and used 20' enclosed trailer

A few days ago I put up a post looking for a used 20' enclosed trailer for sale,and got no replies.I knew they are needles in a haystack,but before I bought a new trailer I had to try anyway.I did manage to find a guy that will sell me some hens teeth sez they are easier to find.Any suggestions on the right trailer with the right equipment ?

Hi xcobraj,

I got one from these guys and it was as advertised, for not much more than what I was going to pay for a 6-year old one, and has the heavy axles (5K instead of 3.5K) I wanted. They'll set you up with whatever color and options you want.

I picked mine up in PA but there are other locations, I think,

Hill Equipment

No interest in the company, just think they're OK to do business with.

Tom,I called Hill Equipment and they were very nice...and you were right price wise between buying new rather then new.How do you like your Haulmark trailer in general? There wasn't much difference in price from a 20' and 24'.

I was told to buy a 24' or a 26' for resale.

The fellow you sell it to may have a tire rack, a tool chest, a scooter, a compressor, a generator and possibly a longer car than our Cobras.

I was told 24' is the minimum to look for for resale.

Sadly if you have time, do a search by my username, but I have posted some real interesting links in this regard. I bought and sold trailers on the used market and swear by it. The 24 foot plus advice is VERY VERY sound. To confuse you further, I used to tow a 24 foot tag along, when I went to tow a 28 foot, the NEW PACE trailer dealer told me a 28 foot tag tows easiers than a 24. I thought he was smoking dope at the time. He was right. More stable going forward, less twitchiness when backing up...not as manueverable though so do not let this be your first. 22 or 24 is good. My 1.5 cents.

Lightbulb used trailer

In Birmingham news classifieds this past weekend...24ft Pace..99 or 2000 model $4900...

Have a 24 ft myself and you will upgrade from the 20ft...cant have too much room and as I always say...never let your haul outweigh the hauler!!!!! If you do the accident will happen the only question is when?????

For Cobras and most mid size cars, a 20 ft trailer is plenty big. They come in all shapes and configurations.

a new 20 ft Haulmark utility trailer (race trailers are more) is about 5K near Pocono Raceway at Chestnut Hills trailers. Drill down the price from there for used.

Resale is usually not an issue, 20 footers are always selling. Unless you're going to a lot of races, hauling alot of tire and parts, no need to go bigger than a 20 footer.

Make sure you get a load leveling hitch and bars, it will greatly improve your towing experience.

Also, anything bigger than 20 ft, you must consider the towing capabilites of you tow rig. I don't care what they say about towing capacities, its never enough. I finally went from a Ford Expedition w/ 5.4 to an F250 Turbo Diesel, which will pull anything. Some gas powered SUVs are better than others...but ask those that own them before changing vehicles.

My tow vehicle is Expedition with the 5.4 liter engine and I did wonder if that was going to be strong enough.I don't really think it is going to be if I go with the 24'

Wheelbase length is also a concern with the Expedition as large enclosed trailers like to start wanting to move the tow vehicle around. Much of this can be helped with sway control add-ons. But I can tell you, I used to have a SVT Lightning and I towed my old 24 ft. Pace with it once, and only once. Soon there after, got a bigger truck. You would be better off with more like a 20 foot or so then in my non-trailer-pro opinion. Jamo , if you see this, how long is your trailer as I know your combo with the Expedition has been covering some miles with success?

TC,

Alot of it has to do with how well the load is balanced in the trailer. Towing a 2500 lb car in a 20 footer is totally different from towing a 3500 lb car with fule, tool chests, spare parts, etc.

My Expedition towed very well, straight and comfortable, with a full load and the leveling bars. But even with a Super Chip installed and a K&N filter, the 5.4 ran out of steam on the hills. Thay are rated to 7900 lbs towing, but I found, even at about 6800 lbs lowwd, it could be a bear.

Now with the F250 Diesel / 4WD and 4x4 off road suspension, I can tow up to 12000 lbs, no problem.

You know my wife really likes her expedition,and it is getting up there in mileage.(I mean the expedition of course).Guess maybe time to change the whole package.Again refering to the tow vehicle and trailer!Uh...yes dear! ok I gotta go.Thanks Joe
