Carlisle Kit Car Nationals 2004 May 21 - 23
The Carlisle Kit Car Nationals will be held in PA on May 21 - 23.
Here is the link to their website for more details.
I have not been to this event... what is it like? It is not a trivial drive for me to go there and was wondering if it was worth the trip?

PS: After posting this I ran across another post about Carlisle. Sorry for being redundant however the other thread was not well labeled or named IMHO.

If the weather is going to hold out, then it is most certainly worth the trip.

I agree with Bill. If the weather is nice, there will be a great turn-out. There's always good attendance among the various cobra manufacturers as well. I would imagine that both FFR and Superformance will have their Daytona offerings there this year and there's normally a Chassis Dyno there as well. If you wanted to make a long weekend of it to make even more of your trip, Hershey is close by as well as the scerenity of the Amish Country.....a Cobra rumbling through Amish Country.. Now there's a thought.
I won't be able to make it this year due to my somewhat 'remote' locaton, but I definitely be thinking about it. Here's a wish for good weather for the rest of you, though.

What do you guys mean "IF" the weather holds out? As far back as I can remember, it has rained every year!

YEAH - -
"CARLISLE", "RAIN" AND "WADE C." ARE ALL SYNONYMS.
FUNNIEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN WAS WADE DRIVING ACROSS THE GRASS AT CARLISLE TWO YEARS AGO - IN A DRIVING RAIN - WITH NO TOP - AND WEARING A SCUBA MASK AND SNORKEL.
IT ALWAYS RAINS AT CARLISLE - IT'S A TRADITION!! IT'S STILL A HECK OF A LOT OF FUN.
REDSC400 - - - COME ON OUT. BE SURE TO VISIT US AT THE "CAPITAL AREA COBRA CLUB". WE'RE USUALLY HUDDLED UNDER A SILVER TOPPED TENT WITH OUR CACC BANNER WAIVING AND DRINKING RAKI.
Y'ALL HAVE A REALLY GREAT (AND DRY???) DAY.

Guys:
How much time would it take to experience the show? I could take me 6 hours or more to get there. Is one full day enough?

Rain? Ya mean hurricane don't you?
Perhaps you weren't there the year the trash cans were blowing around and the owner of an AC aluminum bodied car was physically trying to protect his "investment."

PS: ...but good weather or bad we've always had a good time at Carlisle.

HEY, JIM - - - -
YOU BET - - - TONS OF FUN.
I WILL HAVE THE GT-40 UP THERE THIS YEAR. IT'S "ALMOST" READY. (?). I'M DROPPING EVERYTHING - INCLUDING MAKING A LIVING - TO CONCENTRATE ON IT. I WOULD SAY THAT I WAS GIVING UP MY "LOVE LIFE" ALSO - - BUT, AT MY AGE THAT'S NO BIG DEAL.
REDSC400 - - SIX HOURS "MIGHT" DO IT - - IF YOUR ON A BICYCLE AND DON'T STOP FOR ANYTHING.
TO APPRECIATE CARLISLE YOU SHOULD SPEND AT LEAST TWO DAYS THERE. WE GO UP FRIDAY MORNING AND RETURN EITHER SUNDAY pm OR MONDAY am. (DEPENDING ENTIRELY ON HOW MUCH PARTYING IS DONE ON SATURDAY/SUNDAY.
THERE'S JUST WAY TOO MUCH TO COVER IN SIX HOURS - - BUT SIX HOURS IS BETTER THAN NOTHING.
Y'ALL HAVE A REALLY GREAT DAY.
BLACKJACK

Art:
I would usually spend one day at the show, and that was with splitting time between finding parts at the flea market in support of my MGB restoration, and viewing the replicars on display. I would usually start when it opened and finish when my "dogs" were pooped around 5:00pm or so. If it's a good day weather-wise, you can count on there being a nice turn-out of cars on display. All sorts of car clubs and individual owners showing their pride and joy throughout the weekend. Let your schedule determine what day to attend unless you are interested in the car raffle which happens on Sunday (must be in attendance to win). 12hrs seems like an awful long time to be on the road in one day, especially after walking the show all day. As I said before, since you are traveling in from some distance, Lancaster and Hershey are both within 30-50 miles of Carlisle and could prove to be popular if you brought someone of the female persuasion along with you for an extended weekend. Carlisle is a nice town in the City Center with Dickinson College being right there. I'm not too sure about accommodation in the town, but I'm sure you could find something on the internet, especially if you were to travel on Friday evening, spend the night in Hershey (if Carlisle is full), and then drive the 30-some miles to Carlisle in the morning for the show. Well, that's my $.02.

LOTS OF GOOD BARS TOO.
WE STAYED AT A REALLY NICE PLACE LAST YEAR. ONLY ABOUT FIVE MINUTES FROM TOWN AND TEN OR SO FROM THE SHOW.
I CAN'T REMEMBER THE NAMEOF THE PLACE BUT CHECK IN WITH US AT www.capitalareacobraclub.com IN A FEW WEEKS. I'M SURE IT WILL BE POSTED BY THEN.
OF COURSE - I GUESS WE BETTER CHECK TO SEE IF THEY WILL ALLOW US TO COME BACK.
ACTUALLY - WE WERE TREATED LIKE ROYALTY BECAUSE THE "RICE-JERKS" WERE THERE THE WEEK BEFORE AND THEY WELCOMED SOME ADULT ENTERTAINMENT.
Y'ALL HAVE A REALLY GREAT DAY.

BJ:
I haven't checked the Carlisle web-site, but we understood that the rice-burner crowd had pretty much worn out their welcome in Carlisle last year. Something about too much alcohol, public sex and nudity, late night carousing and automotive highjinks... You can't accuse the Replica Crowd of any of those... well most of them anyway.
Sad to say, but by 7:00 pm, after a day at Carlisle, all I want to do is do a couple of laps at the Carlisle go car track, have dinner at the Eat and Park and fall into bed. But then that may be merely more a function of age and stage than anything else.
